It's not often, in 4 years and change I've only pulled the valve covers once on my 6.9 to inspect for rocker wear and clean. It is extra steps if ever needed though, and at that point I'd rather take the extra steps up front to get caps sealed up and not have one more thing to deal with should there ever be an issue. I suspect the rails could be machined or modified by hand for clearance, but I have never seen them myself so I can't be certain of that.

Update for anyone interested. R&D got back to me and said they’ll be back in stock in a few days. They’re still consistently making them.
