Ford vs Ram: How the 2027 TRX & Power Wagon Compare to the F-150 Raptor R & Super Duty!
Stellantis has debuted two new Blue Oval truck competitors in the 2027 Ram TRX and diesel Power Wagon, both with impressive specs.
We’ve known for quite some time that Ram was planning on bringing back the supercharged, V8-powered TRX, after it previously planned on walking away from V8 engines, in general. Turns out, the Hurricane inline-six powered RHO wasn’t quite enough to make Mopar fans forget the TRX, and customers have been clamoring for it since its departure, too. Now, Stellantis has unveiled not only the expected 2027 Ram TRX, however, but also, a new diesel-powered Power Wagon as well.
For reasons unknown, Ram has never offered a diesel engine option in the heavy-duty Power Wagon before, but it’s righting that particular wrong for the 2027 model year. Thus, while the 2027 Ram TRX will compete with the also-supercharged V8-powered F-150 Raptor R, the Power Wagon – based on the Ram 2500 – will square off against the Ford Super Duty F-250 Tremor with the optional Power Stroke diesel.

Powertrains
The 2027 Ram TRX gets a bit of a boost over its predecessor, using the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 to churn out 777 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. That’s a notable advantage over the F-150 Raptor R’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 as well, which generates 720 horsepower and 640 pound-feet – though it has proven to be capable of reaching 60 mph just a tick slower, at 3.6 seconds.
Suspension
The 2027 Ram TRX gets a host of suspension upgrades, including revised second-generation Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks, forged aluminum control arms, and active performance damping, along with standard 18-inch Satin Black wheels or optional beadlock-capable units wrapped with 35-inch tires. The F-150 Raptor R benefits from the excellent Fox dual-live-valve internal bypass shocks with 17-inch wheels and larger 37-inch tires as standard.
Pricing
The two trucks may share a lot in common, but there is one big gap that exists when it comes to pricing. When it arrives in the second half of 2026, the new TRX will start out at $99,995, not including $2,595 in destination fees. As for the F-150 Raptor R, well, it starts out at $111,625 sans the destination charge of $2.595, which is a rather notable gap, indeed.

Powertrains
The big news pertaining to the 2027 Ram Power Wagon is that it can finally be had with a diesel, and in this case, it’s the 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six making 430 horsepower and 1075 pound-feet of torque. It’ll do battle with the F-250 when one opts for the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel, which produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque in standard-output guise, or 500 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet in the optional high-output format.
Capability
According to Ram, the diesel Power Wagon has a max payload capacity of “almost” 3,000 pounds, as well as a max tow rating of “nearly” 20,000 pounds. The F-250 is a bit more capable in that regard, however, offering up to 4,000 pounds of payload and conventional towing of 20,000 pounds.
Pricing
The 2027 Ram Power Wagon will start out at $88,470, including destination, when it arrives in the second half of 2026. However, one can spec the Tremor package with F-250 trim levels as low as the XLT, which means that one can snag a diesel-powered version of that combo for as little as $75,100 with destination charges included.
