10K mod, better late than never.

I say better late then never because this truck is 12 years old but I've only had it a year so it's new to me.

I just did this to my stock tuned 2002 F350 Dually 4x4 and wow I've never felt such a change in performance, and for only $1.50 from Radio Shack. Here's a couple of threads explaining it a little better than I can, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...superchip.html and https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/410771-5-6k-mod.html basically adding a resistor to the ICP "Injection Control Pressure" sensor to fool it into thinking it's adding less fuel than it really is. Raises HPOP pressure to compensate.

Took me just a couple minutes to install. I have the Motorccraft Severe Duty AIS and 3.5" straight pipe exhaust. It used to idle around 640-670 when warm and now she idles around 700-725 but that is the only difference I can say is negative about this mod. It idles smooth and runs great all the way to redline.

So before, the highest boost pressure I'd ever seen is 25psi (apparently I have a boost fooler) and the only time I'd get an overboost light was when towing up long hills. After this mod, empty, I can hit 27psi and get an overboost light just from flooring it, the 27psi and overboost don't come until it's in overdrive though. Exhaust temps were around 1100 also while in overdrive and at 27psi so I'll have to watch that.

Near my house my friends and I have a stop sign we drag race from with a marker "approximately" 1/4 mile away. Previously it would do 75-77mph to the marker now it is consistently running 78-80 after a few test runs. The biggest difference though is the off the line power, 1st and 2nd gear are monsters now. Drive and overdrive are also noticeably better. And off the line I get a decent puff of smoke, definitely not rolling coal but more than stock.

I just filled up and will update with a mileage result, if I can keep my foot out of it.

Congratulations on your new-found power. It sounds like you already had your truck dialed pretty nicely for stock. Good job! I had the same results with stock and a boost fooler, and not everybody gets their truck to that level. Not wanting to pick on you or your choice, I feel it's only fair to share this with the readers that may be considering the 10K mod or others like it:

The 10K mod will give better atomization, but you're lying to the PCM and the timing will be advanced a bit. Your truck is likely a little louder now, as well as more powerful. I don't subscribe to this mod, because I'm not a fan of tricking sensors (I subsequently removed the boost fooler). I chose to run a chip to get the results I want, and the tune takes the honest readings to set the fuel and timing at safe and controlled levels throughout the power band.

To be fair yet again... I'm ****.

i too, am not a fan of tom foolery tuning. back in the early days of vw's 1.8t, guys were dicking with their waste gates. bending rods coming up on boost way to early on motors that will go to 20-24 psi on stock internals if timed correctly.

The 1k/5.6k diode clamp mod was determined to be a better mod than the 10k mod. I seem to recall Cody (cleatus12r) cleatus12r endorsing it. It has much better idle characteristics, and doesn't spike the voltage to the ICP sensor. I've had it installed for a long time, and it works well.

I too, do not like the 10k mod, or any resistors for that matter. Same reasons as everyone. I prefer to let the computer do the thinking, even if I have to tell it what to think with a tuner.

You are absolutely correct, this is merely an experiment for myself since so many people had varied results, I am definitely leery of leaving it in permanently, or towing with it.

The engine is a little louder, like when it's cold. But I at least want to run a tank through it for mileage results, so far I've got 100 miles on it and the fuel gauge hasn't moved, usually it would start to drop around 80 miles.

My uncle has a Superchips flash programmer that he is going to put his truck back to stock and let me try it. I'm really interested in seeing the difference between stock, 10k mod and the Superchip.

Thank you for your comments, and I am 100% on board with the concerns of tricking the truck.

The old superchip tuner was brutal on the WOT shifts. Made my truck feel like you where getting rear ended every time it upshifted under hard acceleration or when towing.

Was your transmission modified in any way?

I had thought about doing this mod but since I do have 260,000 on the clock I was kinda scared. I didn't want to wear out the early bird HPOP or injectors out faster then they already are. I figure with my mileage I am on the edge of replacement as it is.

im tryn to figure out how, with them resistor/s installed, that they can idle and/or have a less of a throttle response, then the 10k?

There used to be a lot of info out there on this one, but I'm having trouble finding it anymore. Here's a thread that kind of explains it, but not as well as the writeup that I remember being at forgotton.net. Unfortunately, that site seems to have gone away.

Well 16.2mpg was my tank average so the resistor came out today. That's usually what I got for mileage before. And while the power increase was definitely noticeable and fun, how it was delivered just wasn't for me.

Exhaust temps came up way faster and stayed higher than normal when just driving empty. 70mph was 7psi and 700 degrees when before it was 4-5psi and 600 degrees.

Oh and I have stock height tires and 4.10 gears if anyone is comparing any numbers.
