Doors are rattling as the posts on the door jamb have lost the plastic sleeves that the striker grabs when shut.
Any McGuiver tips on what to use?
Thanks~~

A piece of 1/2" pex pipe slit down the side and pushed over the stock striker is supposed to work. I have a premade pex piece in my map pocket for the day when the existing striker fails. It was cracked up really bad but still there and years ago I wrapped it up tight with electric tape and it's still working so I haven't switched to pex yet.
Ooh, I have pex! Maybe red on the left, blue on the right?

I bought a lifetime supply of white, to match the stock color. Came in a 5 foot stick from home depot. I still have about 4'-11" and I haven't deployed my back up yet...
I was looking at my striker yesterday. Added a wrap of black tape, still good. Checked the pex back up. Still there. I think I slit it using a razor knife because there's no kerf.
Sorry guy's, could you tell me more about these plastic sleeves ? My passenger door will rattle or sounds like it bounces when driving over bumps. The hinges are tight.
Where do you put the plastic ?
What's the driver's side look like Max? Your passenger side is bare steel striker. Some after market strikers you can unscrew the pin and replace the plastic tube with out slitting a pex replacement.
It looks the same, I was thinking maybe the cab mounts were shot on the passenger side. The driver's side is quiet over bumps. There's also a creaking sound on the passenger side too at times. But again, I don't drive it much, so I'm not too worried.
I don't believe my pins ever had a plastic sleeve on them.
Not to hi-jack this thread but when my posts were rattling, i did the elec tape trick over the bare post.
While ordering from rockauto i picked up two of the replacements (with a white plastic sleeve that spins) that screw in nice and tight. Now the door rattles worse than ever and i have to slam them really hard to get the door to fully close. I sprayed some wd-40 into the door hook mechanism but that didnt do it. i ended up putting the old ones back in. is there a trick i am missing? thx
LOL, really, I can't believe it was that easy to fix. I just put a piece of Velcro around the pin and took the truck for a ride over the bridge and train tracks...no rattle. I may trim off the excess...
I used a old piece of Velcro that I had laying around the tool box, that I took off some wires I had Velcro'ed together.
The hinges wear out and door sags. Then the grabber in the door starts hitting the plastic roller. It eventually shatters and will fall off. I was able to apply tape to the shattered plastic roller before it disintegrated. Max has bare steel stock striker pins both sides. You can use about an inch of pex, slit down one side and slipped over the steel pin or get aftermarket strikers. Or hit the pick and pull for some.
If your hinges are worn and door sagging that can be part of your issue.
Original striker with plastic roller on it. The OD is 0.67". 1/2" pex OD is 0.63". So close enough. I plan to put a wrap or two of black tape on my pex roller when I need it. That will close in on the stock diameter and provide some protection to the pex, especially since it's going to be slit to get over the pin.
The ID of pex might be a bit big, so I might tape up the steel pin some too...when I get there.
