I am in the middle of doing the 5.6k mod right now, I am trying to put it on a toggle switch but I am not sure where to put the switch I have tried searching and I can only find diagrams without the switch. I would assume I just need to run one of the leads to the switch and from the switch to the ICP. If this is correct does it matter which lead??
Ok well I finished and test drove it. All I can say is WOW! what difference. But I got another question. As I was driving when I hit 3000 the check engine light came on and after I shut the truck off and started it back up it was gone. This was just a light for overboost right?
They consist of using a resistor from radio shack, either 5.6k or 10k. You solder wires to the resistor and put them into your ICP sensor and it ticks your computer into giving the engine more fuel which means more power. Thats just a quick overview do a search for 10k mod and you will find a lot of info on it.
I have read posts on other PSD sites about the 5.6k causing SES repeatedly, and also some report damage to the ICP sensor, but I don't know about that..
I do know, that running a 5.6 in my truck caused a rough idle, and poor running when not at WOT, and the overall "improvment" was not worth all the smoke pouring out the pipe. I stayed with the 10k and removed the switch.. Ran like a stripped-*** ape and didn't smoke any worse than stock.
I know this is a old thread - I hate to beat a dead horse but I think this horse could use one or two more good beatings.
This Really works.
I just did the 5.6k mod on mine and wow is all I can say - My dually has no issues breaking the tire lose... Alote of peep in the pedal now.
I did notice a little higher idle (Maybe call it a cleaner idle) and A lobe when coming to a stop but went away once I fully stopped - nothing real bad. Nice clean shifting and everything. Thanks guys - This thread helped.
