6V Coil Terminals Question

6V Coil Terminals Question
On my stock 6V positive ground system, I have what appears to be an epoxy filled 6V ignition coil. Instead of the + and - symbols, the terminals are marked "Battery" and the other is "Distributor." I realize the + is connected to the distributor, but not 100% sure if the Distributor terminal actually connects to the distributor on a positive ground. The truck seems to be running fine with the exception of an occasional misfire. Hope my question is making sense and would appreciate any feedback. Steve

Instead of me typing a bunch, I found a page that describes why it makes a difference. Typically, especially since there probably hasn't been a positive ground, mainstream vehicle built in the past fifty years, coils available today are going to be marked for negative ground. This means the '+' side goes to the distributor and the 'dist' side goes to the ignition switch when installed on a positive ground vehicle.
This page was written for MG A peeps but is still applicable for your concerns. And, yes, polarity can cause misfire issues.

Shoot, mine's a blue top and it's 6v. I don't recall seeing blue until Ford started using them on DuraSpark systems. Re: pos or neg, I guess I'll have to grab a pencil and see what happens. Haven't done that since the early '70s, when I first read about it. Just wanted to see if it was real or some silliness. (it's real... ;-) )
