Distributor?

I was wondering if I could hook positive wire from my points magnetic distributor to the positive on the coil then the negative to the coils negative?

it is a points distributor.

A points distributor is a switch to ground.
It goes on the NEG (-) side of the Ignition Coil.
And NO you can not hook it to the POS (+) side of the coil.
