6.7 speed limiter

6.7 speed limiter
When my warranty runs out, I want to purchase a program to remove the speed limiter. What program is the best to do this. I don't need any more power, just think it is unsafe to have the engine quit pulling after reaching 97 mph.

I think it is unsafe to be running a 4+ ton truck at that speed or higher. Can you imagine what a sudden stop would look like? Or the object that cause a 4+ ton truck to come to a stop? Or what would happen if you blew a tire?
Just my humble opinion. I love speed also, but in a controlled arena such as a drag strip.

Everyone has an opinion, and yours is as good as any. Passing a car or two from 55 mph, you can exceed 97 mph in about five seconds in a 6.7 PSD.
Granted, I would not want to maintain 100 plus mph for any length of time in a pickup.
But, when passing that last car, your engine stops pulling, is not good.
Again, my question was does anyone suggest a good program to remove the speed limit?
As to the drag strip, I agree, racing should be done on the track. Notice my avatar, 1017 hp Falcon drag strip car.
As for normal speeds I use with our pickup is, 60 mph pulling our 5th wheel, and 70 mph on the freeway empty.

Maxtor, I can't believe many people would agree with you there. Other drivers (e.g. me) are not interested in being part of that kind of risk. I'm kinda hoping you're only kidding.

Another thing to keep in mind is driveshaft critical speed. From my days of working on the Superduty several years ago the critical speed wasn't very far above the governed speed. Here is what happens if you exceed the critical speed.

As far as going fast, I don’t do much of it, but I have been surprised at how fast it goes from 70 to almost 90 when passing. That’s when I look down at the speedo and say “oh s@#t!

Total agreement. With speed limits at 80 and 85mph in texas.. it happens. Try passing some one when you have a limited strech to accomplish that. When passing slow trucks on a 2 lane ive seen well north of 100mph. I dont prefer to hand around in on comming traffic. That is unsafe. Hammer down, pass then let off and back to cruising speed. My 6.0 was tuned and didnt have that limiter any more.... or the stupid advance track that you cant shut off

If you have to do 90+mph to get around someone then you should not be passing. Mark Kovalsky has an excellent point...your truck was never designed for it. Further more, public roads are not designed for it. And most people don't want to be included in your poor decision.

I am one also that believes that going over the speed limit is dangerous. If you have to go over 90mph to pass someone do you really need to pass them?
One of the hot debates on the internet is if exceeding the manufactures GVWR is ok.
To me, exceeding the speed limiter is 1,000 times more dangerous. Loosing control of 4 tones at 90+ mph is going to be deadly.

Weather, traffic, vehicle condition, driver experience and physical condition are all factors that make it dangerous or not dangerous.
That is my opinion.
