How do I pull the Cam gear to replace it? Di I have to use some sort of puller? New gears are on the way so I trying to get this thing off so I can clean the block where the new sealant will go. I tried looking on alldata.com but all they have there for that particular job is parts and labor numbers.
That is what they were talking about in the first posts. The cam gear being heated to expand it then placing it on the Camshaft. You may have to get it removed at a machine shop with a press. The new gear may also need to be heated to install it.
Got an old toaster oven? Thats what we use at work to heat bearings and gears that have to go on hot. It works pretty good, just dont get it too hot and weaken it. Generally if you have a little oil or grease on your hands, like you will when your working on this thing, if you gently rub a finger on the gear it should instantly smoke the oil, if not its not hot enough to go on.
I should be able to pull the gear off from the block. They said they just used a puller at the salvage yard to get it off. It should arrive today and I'll be able continue with the repair until the Oil pump drive gear arrives. I hope that is how things will go. If it goes that way, my weekend is not screwed.
