I think I have an extra pump gear somewhere if you need it. Let me know and I will get it to you. Post some pics so we know what we are working with as well.
I think my pump gear is fine. It's the big one in the middle that is shot.
I have not replaced the cam gear on a 7.3, but on other IH engines the gears have to be heated to the proper temp to install for a "shrink fit" on the shaft. I've had to the rear part of the timing cover on a couple of 530e and DT 466 engines, which required removing all the gears. My Ford manual only shows removing the cam and gear as an assembly. Hopefully, someone can chime in on the gear replacement by itself.
You'll have to pull the camshaft out before removing the drive gear.
You can't take the front cover off without removing the oil pan. You can't remove the oil pan without removing the engine.
Good luck.
Also, it would be a great idea to weld the new cam gear to the camshaft....since the gear will likely work it's way off of the camshaft after it's been replaced.

That is what I was thinking but didn't want to spout off with out being sure.
OK. More fricking great news. It's a Ford part and no after market parts are available. Does anybody know where I may find a used one? I'm getting real sick of every damn part on this truck being Ford parts only.

OUCH.
Since you are going this far, how many miles is on this engine, does it run perfectly now, or is it time to consider getting it rebuilt?
Aren't the gears a matched set? I know on the 300 6 cyl that mixing cam/crank gears from different engines will make some weird humming noises. Will all 3 need to be replaced at the same time?
It's possible to get a humming noise, but I think for the most part it would be unnoticeable because of the engine combustion noise......unless you're Robert6401 . Just giving you a hard time, Bob!
So I'm screwed. I can't pull the motor and I don't have the $$ to take it to a dealer or another mechanic.
Is it possible to just put it back together, make sure that the gears are seeted correctly and run it? The damaged area is just on the front edge of the gear in one section of the gear. The teeth are not completely missing from the entire width of the gear itself. I'll post some pics tonight when I get home.
FYI, the truck is otherwise running flawlessly. With the exception that the wastegate gets stuck sometimes when the motor is cold. I have heard that is normal though.
In that cut-away photo, the gear that has broken teeth is the larger one that is located directly below the blue gear. The blue gear is ok, a few burrs but I can have that cleaned up here in the machine shop at work. I need to order the large gear.
Bummer. (massive understatement)
Well, I REALLY think you need to post some photos. Is sounds like you can actually see the chipped teeth through the access hole, is that correct? If so, then you must only be able to see a portion of the cam gear at any one time. It would be helpful if you can take a picture, rotate the engine (with breaker bar), snap another pic and so on. Then PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address where you can send the pictures. I'll then post them here for everyone to see.
I guess I am hoping that your cam gear is fine....but it sounds like it is damaged. If so, I wonder how much damage there is. I suppose its possible that a cam gear can work fine with some minor chipping but it sounds quite risky doesn't it? Photos would REALLY help so I think that should be your next step if possible.
