So I found a gear in Denver for 50 bucks. Now if I cld figure out a way to do the job. I don't own the tools to pull the engine. Why do things have to be so damn complicated?
Curtis (Pocket) is on here and PSN. Send him a PM he probably knows of a good place for you to get this job done. Also, Google the Colorado Powerstroke club or what ever it is. "ShayB" and her husband (on PSN, can't think of his PSN name) are members there. They might know of a good place as well. And.....Tom S (PSN and I think here once or twice) is in Colorado. At least one of them should be able to recommend a place you can trust.
According the Cleatus, for some reason you have to pull the oil pan just to get the front cover off and to pull the oil pan, you have to either remove the engine or cut the crossmember.
I'm thinking cuttin the cross-member and rewelding it would be a whole crap load easier. I guess we shall see. The other Ford guy I spoke with in Colorado Springs where I got the new (to me) cam gear said I didn't have to. Just pull the front clip, radiator and crap and go to work. Seems to me that yanking that huge motor out just to swap a gear is an aweful lot of unnescessary work.
On my way home, pics in a few. This crap is enough to make me start drinking!
Here are the pics. There is only one damaged section to the cam gear. Five teeth are broken a little less than half. I turned the gear one full revolution and all other parts look fine.

You have to remove the oil pan to remove the oil pickup tube mounting bolts to the bottom side of the timing cover because the oil pump is attached to the timing cover and oil passes thru it.
Looks pretty bad. I was holding out hope that maybe a few teeth only had some small chips but the photos tell a grim story. I don't think you can run it like that, at least not for very long. How many miles are on the engine?

Thank you for that clarification.
.
And yes those pictures look grim.
Can you get the cam out without pulling the lifters? When I built mine I put the cam in, then piston cooling jets, then lifters. I dont know if you will be able to get the cam out with the engine sitting in the truck (if you cut the crossmember) with the lifters all down against the cam. For sure you will have to pull all of the push rods out but even then gravity will be working against you to get them all held up enough all at the same time to slide the cam out.
Also, just thinking here, but I hope your crank gear is not screwed up also, might pay to see if your guy with the cam gear has one of those too. $50 for the cam gear, surely the crank gear will be cheap if he has it.
