I'm sticking with what FORD says. Good luck to you.

On my 2001 diesel I had it chipped and rode and used it hard. Changed my oil every 7,500 miles and at 198,000 miles I traded her in for my 2007. My 2007 6.0 had 80,000 miles on it when traded and intervals were 7,500 miles and NO ISSUES. But with this NEW superduty, going with the oil "Brain". I think Ford knows whats it's doing.

No wonder Jimmy Carter (conservationist extrordinare) is in the hospital today, musta been he saw that post. Don't y'all remember the 70's, start your vehicle and drive real slowly allowing it to warm up.

Thats a great article. Makes perfect sense. An engine is designed to operate in a way that gives you POWER under load. The engine is loaded to do the work and it performs it when it is working properly. An engine is not supposed to "break" from getting good power out of it when you need it. Crap for power because your afraid to put you foot in it only coasts the engine into a state of laziness so to speak.

Use the power and the power will use you!

My dealer wants to keep me on the 5,000 mile changes, too.
The "of course they would" did cross my mind.

I'm working on convincing myself to trust the computer.
My previous vehicles were older and the only decision making was me.
If Ford says to trust it, trusting the computer will cut down on recurring costs.

Epic, thanks for sharing. I think it's great how Ford is out here researching customer feedback and even responding (though secretly). That's not something I've seen in a long time from anyone and I'm quite impressed. By the way, you know those guys probably had that video on a projector in a conference room smiling from ear to ear as you were inspecting that oil pan plug.

A family member has an '08 Honda Pilot and Honda says to change the oil at 15% according to the oil minder system. That averages around 6,500 miles between changes.

On a side note for those of you with the fancy computer, does that "OK" message eventually change to a percent or does it simply swap from OK to change?

I got 9400 miles on my last oil change. That was what the computer let me go. I sent it in for an oil test and will let you guys know how it turned out. By the way, I changed the first oil at 2500 miles then at 9400 miles.

I'm a believer that the first change should be quick in order to remove all the left over factory smutz.

I had my free change at ~4900 (along with 3 gal of DEF).

Gonna let the computer tell when to change next time! Ford really has their best interest in mind with this bit of computer calculation magic. Bet the calculations are on the VERY conservative side.
