Gear Oil

I would like to change the gear oil in the transmission of my 1946 Ford 1 1/2 ton truck. Can anyone tell me how many quarts of 80-90 it holds. Thanks!!!

Dan, I finally brought in my manual from the barn. If you havent already done the change this is the info I have. The chart is for 1940 trannys, but probably is applicable to yours. All of the four speeds, and some of the heavy duty 3 speeds call for a 5 pint lubricant capacity.

The research I did said that it too 600W oil in the trans. I don't plan on using it in mine, I figured I would use 150W so as you can shift it in the winter. Hope this helps.

Oil weight

This manual calls for 90 in the winter and 140 in the summer.
