I changed my oil today for the 1st time. The warning tag on the oil pan indicated to tighten the filter 1 1/2 turns. Is this after hand tightening or after the filter gasket is in contact with the filter housing? I tried to turn the filter an additional 1 1/2 turns after hand tightening, but was only able to turn the filter an additional 3/4's turn using a wrench.
The normal procedure on my cars is to hand tighten, then a 1/2 turn more without the use of a filter wrench.

how do you tighten by hand then get another 1/2 turn without a wrench?
>What is correct?
lots of opinion here at this site but it really your truck and your experience that counts.
I have all my life used hand tighten on every thing I own as well as on customers cars when I worked in shops and never had a problem. This includes o-ring,flat and bevel type seals. I also believe in oem filters.
My step son believes to tighten every thing till it won't budge or to failer! I can't get him to change!
I can't tell when the seal actualy comes in contact with the seal surface, so again just hand tighten with one hand is all I do.
over and out
