I have a 2005 E350 5.4, it has 12,000 miles and uses 1 to 1 1/2 qts of oil between 3000 mile changes. I have the oil changed by Jiffy Lube so I'm useing penz 5w-20w. Do you think a change to MC oil would help or just take it to the dealer, it is still in warrenty. The dealer is 100 mile away & my local dealer may balk at warrenty and tell me the oil usage is within specs.
Thanks Mike
Yes, I think he will say your usage is OK. They usually consider up to a quart per thousand to be acceptable. Personally, I wouldn't be happy, but I doubt that you can get Ford to do anything.
While I think that the Motorcraft oil and especially the Motorcraft oil filter, are better than what you normally get at Jiffy Lube, I wouldn't expect that a change would make much difference.
My 2002 F250 5.4l has always used some oil. Now has 42,000mi on it. Very little heavy towing. Usually uses one quart per 3000mi. Has used up to one quart per 1500mi. I was considering trying the Mobil Truck and SUV 5w-40 to see if that would help the consumption issue.
Hi
Thanks for all the replys. This is a company truck I inherited with 11,000 miles, I assumed the previous driver used Penz 5w 20w. I now find he was useing Mobil 1. I had a 2004 E250 5.4 I drove for 50,000, never used a drop. I used dino 5w-20w. I am switching to MC 5w-20w next oil change.
