IDM Failure code & High Side Open Bank 1&2

Today I just installed a brand new IDM and after running the Injector Buzz Test test, I received codes: P1298 Injector Drive Module Failure, P1293 Injector High Side Open - Bank 1, and P1294 Injector High Side Open - Bank 2. Can anyone help explain how a new IDM could throw these codes?

When running the KOEO test I received codes P0605 Injector Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error, P1298, P1293, & P1294.

My engine is still missing but the engine is running a heck of a lot better after replacing the IDM and injector 8 has a rotational velocity of about 3%

Thanks,
Drake

This schematic may help to explain these codes. Look at the box at the lower left for the codes. Sounds like a wiring problem between the IDM and connector outside the the VC.
Have you cleared the codes and rechecked?

Which connector outside the VC are you referring to? The actual under valve cover gasket with harness or the engine wiring harness connector?

Could this possibly have something to do with the IDM Relay(s)?

The 9 pin connector that plugs int the VC on the outside of the gasket. It could also be at the 42 pin connector. These wires go from the IDM connector thru the 42 pin to the 9 pin connector, thru the VC , and on to the UVCH .

The IDM relay provides the power to the IDM and would not affect these codes.

Have you done the cylinder contribution test also?

Yes, and it passed the cylinder contribution test.

Do you have any reason to believe that my new IDM is damaged already by a bad connection?

I also performed the ohm test from the IDM harness connector and everything checked out fine.

Is this a new IDM from Ford? I got some codes like this when dealing with reman units. I still get a P1298 code IDM failure, but all my wiring ck'd out ok and ran fine. Did you wiggle the wires while testing to ck for intermittent opens?

NA20 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) P1294 AND P1293: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON HIGH SIDE CIRCUIT
DTCs P1294 and P1293 indicate an open circuit exists on the high side circuit between the IDM and the injectors. The following table lists the circuits to inspect while performing these pinpoint tests, based on the DTC retrieved during the KOEO On-Demand and Injector Electrical Self Tests.

DTC High Side Injector Bank
P1294 878 (PK/YE) Left
P1293 1087 (OG) Right

Key off.
Disconnect the connector on the bank with the code.
Key on, engine off.
Measure voltage on the suspect high side circuit Pin E on the injector vehicle harness connectors and battery ground.
Is voltage greater than 1 volt?
Yes No
GO to NA21 . GO to NA24 .

I'm not sure if the IDM is new or re-manufactured. I got it from Clay at RiffRaff. If I were to guess, I would say it was re-manufactured, but I'm not sure.

When I have time, I will have to perform the tests you suggested here and let you know what I get.

Email on its way. Start with NA20 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) P1294 AND P1293: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON HIGH SIDE CIRCUIT
and go from there. Good luck!
