I am looking to hook up a back up camera that I got. It has a wireless monitor. I was wondering if anyone knows of a constant on power wire that is in the rear of the X that I could hook the camera to? I would like it to stay on all the time so that I can check the connection to my trailer while going down the road. If anyone can tell me of a wire at the back of the x that I can connect to that will keep the camera with constant power it would be very helpful. I would prefer to use something that is there already rather than having to run a whole new wire from under the hood. Thank you for any help.
When I bought my ex, the 7 pin socket was corroded that I had to replace it with a Hoppy you can get at a regular auto parts store. On that replacement part is the white wire that is the +12V. Don't know what wire it is on the OEM.
If you do install it, make sure you feed the wire over top of the hitch receiver just below your bumper.
Constant as so it would be working with the Key out and sitting in the driveway? you can tap into the rear powerpoint it is always hot if the power draw is low enough. access it from inside the jack access door. you could also put a cig lighter plug on it so that you can just plug it in there, and pull it out when you are not using it.
If you have the 7-pin connection for your trailer then just tie into pin 4. Otherwise use the lighter-type power outlet on the right hand side near the back door.
Be sure that the license plates light do not shine on the camera.
Wow! Do I feel stupid now or what? I totally forgot about the cigar plug back there. Never used it so I guess out of sight out of mind. However, the darn thing does kinda stick out like a sore thumb!
Anyway, I am assuming that the orange wire is the positive and the black is the negative.
I was wondering if anyone would know if the wireless transmitter for the camera would be affected by the rear a/c motor when it is running? I know it is probably going to be a trial and error thing but I figured if you guys could help me narrow things down it would help. It would be nice to have the transmitter and everything else hidden inside the jack storage area.
My VR3 camera wireless signal is not affected with the ac motor. I think the distance from the camera to the receiver is more of the problem with the flickering.
mine worked fine with the AC, while it was working. blew my fuse(melted actually) and now the camera is shot. I had mine tapped into my extra reverse lights - tied into the 7pin. rewired the camera for the cig plug in the back but it must have fried the camera too - alas.
