Just a thorough cleaning at this point. I am kind of interested in doing this build(if I continue further with it) in steps. Figured I would start with the externals and see how that feels. Then later on, when the engine is in need of some more serious overhaul, I will do the internals.
Hahaha, Jim. We did make sure that the seals got back onto the valve stems.
Thanks for the compliments guys. It's gone a bit slower than anticipated, but only because of work schedules and weekend conflicts. The overall time spent hasn't been too bad.
Doesn't look like there's much ridge in those cylinders.
Are you going to install the valve seals, or run it with total loss oiling?
the cylinders actually looked pretty good for an engine with some miles and age. the internals all looked great, the oil was definitely changed appropriately by the previous owners. we cleaned carbon off everything (mainly valves) and lapped the valves to clean up the crater like seating surfaces.
SEALS ARE ON im just glad we realized it before we had the engine in the truck.
No Andre, no Port and Polish now. If we had known it was going to go the speed it has gone, that may have been something explored more thoroughly. I think someday I will be getting into the P&P, and some of the other more extensive mods, but for now I am looking forward to feeling the difference external mods make.
Great job!!!
I really like the subdued engine paint, has me rethinking the bright blue and black I was planning.
Where did you buy your distributor and intake manifold?
David
Yeah, all the internal stuff was going to start adding on money, and I just wasn't ready to pay more right now.
David, I shopped around for the intake manifold and lucked out by finding one locally that the guy sold me, and included a set of headers as well(that I didn't use). The distributor I bought through performancedistributors.com. That was a big splurge in this build. I liked all the reviews I read on it, and the "ease" of installation and set-up.
Alright guys, new update. I am driving the truck now. Still some little things here and there to work out, but it definitely drives well. I am very happy to have it back. Sounds pretty mean as well, I think.
I guess I should add this video on here as well. It's from Miles' phone. Haven't had a chance to get one with my camera.
