I have manual steering, the 15" Grant three spoke stainless/ walnut wheel with the cobra horn button, no tilt, and the seat all the way back. It's pretty much perfect for me, and steering effort is darn near the same as the stock wheel.
What I really looked hard at was the dish of the wheel. Mine is 3.5", and I wouldn't go any deeper than that. Jsutton's wheel has virtually no dish to it, and that made it too far away for my taste. If you can find one that has a relatively shallow dish but still brings it out enough to be comfortable for your reach, you'll be golden there. Then all you'd have to do is find a style you like within that depth range.
I actually wanted one with a slightly larger diameter than stock, but I discovered I'd have to go to a NOS wheel for an older model. WAAAAAAAAY too expensive...
I'm actually surprised that no one has made their own steering wheel yet, given the price of new ones and due to the fact that the Grant adapters are so basic. You could cut out some steel stock, bend the spokes out on a vise or a press brake, weld a ring on it, and cover it with your choice of material. Then drill three holes in it for the bolts, one hole in the center for the retaining nut, and use the horn kit components to hook up your horn.
i my self have the classic 3 spoke grant similar to the mustang wheel and i like it, i pull a trailer all the time and dont have and issues, im like the first poster, the stock steering wheel was too big or maybe my bellies to big either way it was uncomfortable and since i didnt have tilt steering it was a PITA, i like my grant steering wheel and expecially the thick grip on the outside of it. plus the 3 spoke grant just looks to fit better than others ive see and it looks classic.
I will look around but I don't think so. I don't think I have any pictures after I painted it. I had that steering wheel, a blue anodized shift ****, I painted it Grabber green (automotive spray paint from wal-mart), and I installed a cd player. It looked cool but I wish I hadn't put the cd player in it. It was nice to have but looked weird sticking out in front of the steering wheel. It was flush mounted but looked like a weird place for a cd player. I was young so I had to make it cool. lol
OK I don't have any pictures of it with the green paint and the steering wheel but I do have pics of other things I did.
These pictures are all pictures of pictures taken with my cell so they are not that good sorry
Good shot of my fog lights.
I added lots of marker lights and tail lights.
In the pic above you can see I removed the stickers and added a side marker behind the headlight.
In this last pic you can kinda see the cd player in the top right corner.

Now why didn't i think of using a Grant adapter?
Genius!
I had thought about building one, the metal fab is far from hard considering the tools and background i have, but i had stopped at not being able to spline it for mounting.
I've decided to pull mine off, and put the little Grant on for a bit and see if i like it....
In the mean time, I'm gonna strip the rest of the padding off the stock one and re-do it in wood. I had more or less figured out how to do that, and then wondered if anyone had done a home made wood conversion, and found this, almost exactly what I have planned; How To Make Your Own Wood Steering Wheel
Although, I have an large stock of exotic woods left over from a prior hobby/living(was a custom knife maker for several years) so I think I'll do something in exotic red, and black woods, or maybe selectively stained flame figured maple to match my trucks color scheme...
That site also mentions forming a steel rod around a plywood wheel to form a new rim if you go further custom... That, along with some spokes, a Grant adapter and almost any covering for the rim could net a cheap, relatively easy, fully custom wheel....

I was thinking about it, too...in fact, I think I still have my luaun mock-up in the shed...
I got a crummy old stock '74 F100 wheel from the junkyard just so I could bring it home and cut it up. I removed the splined collar piece and cleaned it up really good (it's only welded to the wheel wires in two places), but when I just decided to go with a Grant wheel, I put it in the shed too. That collar piece is pretty big and hefty...it could easily have a custom wheel welded to it. You could even find a wheel from something totally different in the junkyard and weld it to that splined collar...it would still fit just like the original!
I have newer style billet steering wheel with adapter it also has the ford logo on the horn button I'm looking for a o.g steering wheel to replace the billet steering wheel trying to get the o.g look back so if interested in a swap let me know I could send pictures.
