i don't want to imagine what it will be like since i'm running full size tires and it has NO power steering...but i plan on using a suicide ****...to help with the turns...it seems to be hard to keep on going at it cause i have to move my hands around so far to get that extra grunt to move it...i think a small wheel would make it better...but we'll see...i emailed grant and they said the cheap O' 3285 kit will work and it's the cheapy.

The smaller wheel makes it harder to turn the truck with no power steering. While you are moving it is no real problem. Parking spaces are real killers. You look like an irate nut job turning the wheel several times to get in or out. The upside is you burn calories and build up your forearms.

I dunno actualy.... the more i think about it, it might be all in my head, an illusion of needing the leverage.. A buddy has a 68 Chevy on 35s, with one of these little grants on it. Now that i think about it, its strange to drive with that small wheel, but there is no problem with turning easily.

Hmm. Might just put he grant on my truck today and see how it is.

78 79 Ford Truck Bronco Sport Steering Wheel horn kit : eBay Motors (item 330471855893 end time Sep-19-10 11:24:49 PDT)
I had a chance to buy a tilt with one a few weeks ago for 100 and blew it because I didn't know how hard they were to find.

My 4x4 rig had 35s, manual steering, and a teeny 13-inch Grant wheel. Turning while moving slow as a PITA. Driving it was more like physical labor (like digging a ditch) and I didn't like driving it at all. 'Did a power steering swap from a 79 Bronco, including the steering wheel, and it is sooooo much more pleasurable to drive and wheel.

Problem now is I dont' have a horn... but I got a real nice steering wheel with woodgrain.

What part of that swap made you loose the horn?

Apparently, while the 78-79 steering wheels fit my 73 column, the horn contact set-up is incompatible. I haven't researched what I can do to make the horn pads work yet since I'm just glad to have power steering. Ya got have a tip for me??

I have an 86 wheel (78-86) on my 1977 column (73-77) so I think are talking about the exact same swap and I got my horn working.
The 73-77 turn signal switch has a spring loaded horn brush that makes contact with a ring on back of the 73-77 wheel. This ring is connected to the horn button which is then connected to ground.
The 78-86 wheel is a little different but it wasn't too hard to figure out. My 1986 wheel had 2 rings on back so I just had to pay attention to which one my horn brush was contacting and hook up to that one. It looked like maybe the 2nd ring on the 86 wheel would have been grounded on the 86 column. Since I don't have the 86 column in my truck I just grounded to the steering wheel itself just like my 1977 wheel was from the factory. I hope all that makes sense.

That is my favorite steering wheel! I only like it in chrome though.

DAMN that looks good in chrome! I will most likely put this steering wheel in my truck though \/ \/ \/ Its the 3 spoke one with the black grip. Looks great only it costs a small fortune at $270.

The Mustang wheel doesn't have a provision for the horn as it is integral to the turn signal stock; there is just a cap for the center. The mounting face on the rear of the wheel is also a different depth. If you try to put one on a Mustang from a truck you pop the rag joint as you are tightening it down. The spline count is the same but the wheel interferes with the column cover.

On a happier note, I picked up the sport wheel for my truck for $20. The seller had it listed as being for a Mustang, however when I recieved it I noticed it was quite a bit different from the sport wheel on my '80 Cobra.

I absolutely love it and is one of the coolest upgrades that I have done to the truck so far, I just wish it was real leather like the one from the 'Stang instead of simulated.

i my self have the classic 3 spoke grant similar to the mustang wheel and i like it, i pull a trailer all the time and dont have and issues, im like the first poster, the stock steering wheel was too big or maybe my bellies to big either way it was uncomfortable and since i didnt have tilt steering it was a PITA, i like my grant steering wheel and expecially the thick grip on the outside of it. plus the 3 spoke grant just looks to fit better than others ive see and it looks classic.

heres the one i have http://www.jcwhitney.com/3-spoke-cla...41&zmap=124254
