There is a lot of stuff involved. More than I'm willing to sit and scribe out, especially since you should be using a manual and it should have everything detailed for you.

That said, there is nothing too difficult. Just make sure to use a sharpie and some baggies to label and sort everything. A few bolts here, a few nuts there... after a while its near impossible to remember what went where.

Take your time. Read the directions a couple times.

Also, b e advised that this is the '73-'79 forum. You may want to post specific questions in the the 80-to-whatever forum.

All the stuff dog mentioned and some masking tape to label hoses and stuff also helps. You can take pictures before you start and you'll have something to look back at to see how it goes back together.

And various cardboard peices that you can use to put bolts in order of how they go back, like the water pump bolts, they are various lengths and diameters, you can draw out the water pump on the cardboard and stick the bolts through the cardboard in the order/place they go to reattach the pump.

Don't forget about ground wires either. Really though, my first engine pull a few years ago, I just used a Haynes manual and the Tom Monroe book (on Amazon, shipped to my door for under $10)...and it was very self explanatory. After you do it once, you'll wonder why you even needed a manual. Hell, after doing it a few more times, you won't really even need to label anything, you'll throw all the nuts and bolts in one tray and start throwing parts on shelves.

I'll second the ziploc bag and a marker thing. When it was said and done, I had almost 20seperate bags labeled with a sharpie. Some had 3 nuts in it, some had 10 bolts.

The cardboard cutout is a GREAT idea for the water pump, use it! I wish I woulda done that...

Label all rubber hoses, but when you put the motor back in, replace each hose one at a time with a new one, is what I would do.

GROUND WIRES!!!

Buy a Haynes manual. I'm beginning to question the usefulness of threads like this. How many "How do I pull a motor" threads have there been? Thousands. Use the search function or Google. There's even videos on Youtube.

nothing wrong with asking for advice thats what these forums are for . there will always be some one in life that will act rude to you and without actually knowing the person or knowing that they could be having problems like all the rest of us do from time to time
you should just let it pass so you dont get to riled , when you get older all that reacting might cause a heart attack and no one would want that !!

First of all, sit down, shut up and learn something. Second, you ain't the first one to ask how to pull a motor. Third, a thread asking how to pull a motor from start to finish isn't just "noobish" but also just plain lazy. Fourth, the search function at this site is retarded, and using Google is just better. When I was looking for information on how to swap in a ZF5 tranny into my truck, I used Google, and there were three threads that had the info I needed. I didn't have to post a thread asking how to do it. When I tried to do the same search here, it gave me a million threads over nothing and an error message saying that my search terms were too vague. Fifth, this search: Ford truck engine removal - Google Search= took all of 1 second. This is the video: '78 Work truck engine pull YouTube - Work Truck Engine Install.m4vSo, before you get all huffy and puffy and get your feelings hurt, think before you post. There's not many ideas left on these trucks that haven't been discussed in some way or another on this site. There are 2,028 pages of topics just on the 73-79 trucks alone on this site, and I'm pretty sure more than one person has pulled an engine and had some questions. So now that we know all of that, don't you think that maybe you should have done at least some research before you asked a question that has been asked before? If you can't take criticism without getting mad, then I feel sorry for you. And you're welcome for doing your research for you.

Yeah...****in Harry Reid.

Nope. Pull the hood off (my preference), unbolt the torque converter if you have one, motor mounts, exhaust, alternator, power steering, then the bellhousing. Loosen the transmission from the crossmember so it can move. If you pull the front clip, and your core support is rusted, you may be opening a can of worms you won't be able to shut.

Now back to work. You wouldn't happen to know a detailed account of the signing of the Declaration of Indepenence would you?
