1977 F-150 Replacing Steering Wheel

My turn signal cam wasn't switching off. Hasn't for the two years I've owned the truck. I decided to fix it, and discovered that I have a Grant Adapter Kit and Steering Wheel. The adapter doesn't have the dongle (cam?) that should be activating the turn signal.

I've decided I want to put an original steering wheel on the truck. That seems easy enough to google and buy, but it appears that there are more parts that I need (cam, spring, who knows?) to replace the Grant adapter kit and get back to a stock steering wheel.

I have PDF's of the 1977 Ford T Volumes 1-5 manuals, but I can't seem to find a good parts diagram of everything that is needed from the turn signal switch up. That is what drove me to find and join this forum.

I'm hopeful someone might be able to help find the correct page, or point me to an online diagram and parts list? I'm also curious to hear some good advice on where to buy my parts and how to engage with searching for parts on this forum.

Thanks in advance!

Dunno about the factory wheel, but on the back of the adaptor plate is a hole you can put a pin in for the canceler.

Mine is a 4wd, 4.9L straight 6, 4-speed (granny gear) on the floor, not the column. Perhaps I'm not comprehending the diagram, but I don't seem to match what is in my head (from the truck) to any of the configurations presented here. Thanks again!

Please, when asking questions, list all the pertinent info! You failed to mention 4WD, so I posted the 2WD picture.

See post 3 again, I edited in the correct 4WD 4 speed picture.

Hey, Bubba - welcome to FTE! Great place for information. Bill (NumberDummy) is one of our greatest (if a little crusty at times) treasures. His part number information has helped most of us on several occasions.

Hard to believe you have had that truck for 2 years and haven't been on here! How about some pictures? We love that.

Bill, I don't see the horn spring carbon thingy thingy in your diagram. Bubba, if I'm not mistaken, to put er back, pull wheel, pop off the adaptor block and the rest should be plug and play. Remember there is a spring bla bla bla thingy that makes the horn work.

Whoot! That looks precisely like what the picture in my head ought to look like. Thank you very much NumberDummy! I'll do better with posting the relevant information in the future.

I put together an album on here, just went back through Google Photos and found everything that included my truck. I think I can just stick link to here? Brohmhilda by Bubba Hines | Ford-Trucks.com

Here is one"

Other than Googling Ford + part number, is there a better way or service to take one of those part numbers and find the part and ultimately a price?

I think the best way is NumberDummy. I mean he is kind of young and pretty new at this, but he'll eventually get ya there.

The steering wheel and the horn pads are reproduced by Dennis Carpenter (dennis-carpenter.com), who uses Ford part numbers in his repro truck parts catalogs.

PartsVoice.com & rearcounter.com are the two obsolete search websites available to the general public.

You have to register at PartsVoice, but searching for parts is free on both sites. rearcounter.com = just sign on and type away.

You'll need the Ford part numbers on both sites and type them without any spaces or hyphens, like this: D4TZ3600A

1973/79 Ford Light Truck (100/500) Parts Catalog is available on a C/D from hipoparts.com

rearcounter.com D4TZ3600A example:

Thanks again. So when I look at the diagram, I see a part number 3600 ... but I don't comprehend where the D4TZ- and the -A get deduced. Is it something to do with the diagram information, or just something that is standard for the make/model/year?

Shown in illustrations, 3600 is the basic Ford part number for the steering wheel.

The text section of the parts catalog is required to get the complete part number by adding the apropos prefix and suffix.

See edited post #12 for more info. BTW: Are you a member of SASS?
