I am new to the forum and looking for any knowledge. This is not the first time that this problem has happened to me. I bought my truck (04 F250 6.0) from my dad and he had the same problem twice when he had it.
The two times it has happened to me, this is what the truck did. The first time it happened, I went to the local WalMart, ran in quick (about 10 mintues), and went to the truck and went to start it, and nothing. It would turn over but would not start. Eventually I just wore the batteries down. Had to be towed and eventually it just started (months later). This time, it was basically the same thing. I turned the truck off for approximately ten minutes, jumped back in to start it up, and nothing. It had good battery strength and would turn over, but would not start. The truck has two new interstate batteries and a new starter. Had to tow the truck again, and has not yet started. Have talked to a few guys that work on trucks, but they are stumped.
I know very little about vehicles, and even less about diesels. My dad is thinking that it may be a sensor of some sort. It seems like the truck cranks hard enough and should start. It almost seems that it is not getting fuel. Any one have any suggestions or have had this problem themselves? Thanks in advance!
Get the truck to not start (sounds like a no-start hot), let the engine cool down and see if it fires up. That is a good indication of a high pressure oil leak internally in the engine if it starts cold and not hot.
There are multiple threads on this problem, so feel free to search it out and you'll find more than enough answers to your questions.
If you can get any codes from the engine, that is even better for diagnosis.
To be honest, I really have no clue... I had it at a friends and he was just guessing at things and figured he'd go through the fuse box... And one fuse was out further and he pushed it all the way in... He then tried starting the truck and it started right up... I'm not sold that it was that simple, I think it was just luck... But the truck is running nontheless.
Pull that fuse and see if it doesn't start, that gives you more of a clue that it may have been the fuse. Also check the Fuse terminals for looseness. I don't know how many times I have seen bad fuse terminals cause weird problems, or simple ones for that matter!
