Hey all. Put some shell rotella 10w30 in the ole 351w with a motor craft filter. Also got two cans of pb blaster for 6 bucks. The 351 sounds like it runs much better with the new oil. Now to fix the exhaust so the o2 sensor gets a proper reading.
Isn't the Shell Rotella oils for diesel engines? The old 351W is a gas engine right?
BTW, I put the synthetic Shell Rotella 15W40 in my 7.3 Turbo Diesel twice and 'O' rings started to leak.
I think the 5W-40 is synthetic and the 15W-40 is regular.
I'm running the 15W-40 in my gas motor, but I don't have any cats to poison.
Maybe the extra ZDDP makes a difference, it's cheap enough on sale @ Walmart and I can buy a Motorcraft filter there too.
Yup the 351 is a gasser. This is just the regular rotella. I don't believe it's synthetic.
It has more zinc than most motor oils these day which is good for my 351w as its not a roller cam or roller cam block. I believe in 92' they went to roller or 94' don't really remember.
The extra zinc helps. My cat only has to last a few more years or about prob 50k miles if even. They should be okay.
I doubt the previous owner ever changed the oil the whole year he owned it. The stuff was black.
i have to build handicap ramps at my parents house and go get the family hospital bed from my grandmothers basement. while i am doing that james will be swapping injectors out of my truck and into his, my truck gets the stock ones. i pulled the chip and guages yesterday.
thanks guys but we are all set, i have my brother for help. as for doing better, i cant say he is because they told him yesterday he may have broken the knee on his "good" leg. we are pulling him out of stamford and will be going to new haven if he needs any more hospital work done. at stamford we have been hearing a different story from 30 different people every 5 minutes. not to mention the hour drive from home is killing my mother.
Hey Tanner, with the way you are talking up that oil, I may have to give it a shot. I am going to run some seafoam through just before I change the oil first. Probably in the next couple weeks. I think I need to change the transmission fluid as well.
Josiah, I'm sure your're 300 will love the stuff. Also you can consider adding a zddp additive that will probably give you more than the oil does anyway. Seafoam rocks i need to get some time. Also i've heard of auto rx which does a similar thing as seafoam.
