Morning all. I'm taking the next few days off from work. Today I'm meeting the state forestry person in the Nehantic Forest. Won the lottery for a 2 cord wood lot.

2 cords doesn't sound like one good sized tree Rich. ???

Can you explain how logging on state land works?

Normally there is a lottery. You can find it in the CT website. I was in the lottery this year, but didn't get picked. About 2 months after the lottery I was contacted with a letter that said they had some commercial logging that left top behind and they were offering them to lottery people that didn't get selected. The fee was $60

I see... so for $30 a cord you get to go in after the timber has been harvested and "clean up" the tops and limbs for your own use.

What kind of wood is there in Nehantic forest?

Good morning gents. Have a wonderfully hot day.

Happy Birthday Brian. September is a good month for a birthday, if I do say so myself.

Just got first load of Oak and some wild Cherry. It's all hard wood and the pieces are as big as 14 inches in diameter. They left a big stump I had to cut and split into 6 pieces so I could pick it up. Those burn for a long time too...
