I've been thinking about taking the air pump off my pickup, But than I think, How would it work if I took all the air pump crap off(besides the electrical stuff, so the computer thinks its still there) plugged the back of the heads, and than, took the hose off the intake manifold(than plug intake) that goes to the PCV valve, and hooked it to the intake side on that air pump, and put a new hose on the output of the air pump, and just let it vent under the pickup.... Would that work?
Right now I have the PCV valve hooked up like stock, but just have a breather filter on the driverside valve cover due to it was pulling oil into the intake through the hose that was there.. I had the upper intake off today, and noticed that the PCV Valve is also pulling a slite amount Of oil into the intake.... I dont really like that, as it makes the intake look really dirty inside...
The air pump would then vent to the outside - you might as well just make a road tube. The air pump is not gonna work very long with oil vapors passing thru it. How are you gonna pass emissions testing with such a setup?
If you have that much blowby that it overwelms the stock PCV system, then your engine is in need of a rebuild. Please don't force others to breath your unnessary fumes from venting them to the air.
It doesn't have that much blow by, it just when I pull with it, is when it starts to do that. We all know a full or heavy throttle run creates no manifold vacuum, so the pcv valve isn't pulling any air out of the crank case.
If you want to remove the smog system, remove it... and just leave the PCV stock set up alone.
If you really don't want that much oil vapor running thru your intake, you can either buy or easily make your own separator box to catch oil and prevent it from cycling thru the intake. Just keep in mind that if you make your own, the box should be at least 10 times the cross-section of the hose so that the vapor slows down enough to actually separate the oil.
