Hi, I am getting reday to drop in a re-built 302 in my 56 F-100. This engine has a 1974 casting date on the block, but it is built with no air-pump. And I do not see fittings on it for an air pump manifold. It currenlty has the standard PCV set up, with a PCV in the passenger valve cover that feeds into a port in the carburator spacer. The air intake for this system comes in thru the breather element in the oil cap on the drivers side valve cover. The other day I bought a new air cleaner kit for this engine, and I see there is a fitting in the bottom plate of the air cleaner to attach a hose to an oil filler cap. At this point I'm thinking should I just go ahead and replace the current oil breather cap with one that has the fitting to get it's air intake from the air filter. So I guess my question is, would I cause myself any problems going from an open PCV vent system,(pulling crankcase ventilation from the breather in the oil cap) to a closed one (pulling the crankcase ventilation from thru the air filter?) I would think the later would be preferable. What are your thoughts?
