PCV Location on early 60s Y block...

I have a 1960 F100 and from what I gather, someone put a later valley cover and intake on it so it had a PCV and ditched the road draft tube, and the PCV location is toward the rear, almost under an intake runner, with the dizzy on one side and the carb linkage on the other...
The PCV valve sits in that hole, and a piece of fuel hose loops up into a vacuum barb in the rear of the intake.
The "intake" of the PCV system is the oil breather cap.

When I started it this weekend there was noticeable condensation puffing OUT of the breather cap. I was under the impression that air would only go INTO the cap. I haven't pulled it out again to see if the hose was blocked, I know that the PCV valve is not.

Is this correct???

The air comes out of the breather, usealy there is a hose that runs from the breather cap the the air cleaner, so the air from the breather can be reburned in the engine.

That's a different system than what he has. My stock '63 Y has the rear valley pan opening - the PCV is located up at the manifold end of the tube. The piece on the valley pan is an oil catch. If your PCV is at the valley pan, it may have become blocked from sucking oil. The breather/fill tube is the air inlet to the system.

At idle, the PCV restricts itself to keep manifold vacuum high.

You can take the PCV apart and clean it if it is the original metal one - tube about 2" long with a couple of hex's on it - screws into the manifold on one end and a hose fitting on the other. If you take it apart, pay attention to the orientation of the internal pieces.

Sam, do you have a way of posting a photo? I used to have a Y block book but it's vanished now...Probably wouldn't have been in there anyway.

Thanks.

Here are some pics. The one is the outlet from the back of my motor before I re-built it. Kinda hard to see under all the grime. It's a 1-1/2" diameter 'can' about 1-1/2" high with a tube out the side. Originally there is a 1/2" metal tube that runs under the distributor along side the valve cover and turns in toward the manifold. Rubber hose connections on either end of that. Fig. 19 is the PCV.

Hope this helps.
