98 expy 4.6L misses - updated pcv valve / hose assembly question
Hello all,
98 expy 4.6L, started acting up with the dreaded missing and stumbling a couple weeks ago. It was time to replace / clean many of the usual suspects anyways, to date have cleaned MAF, new IAC valve, new EGR valve, cleaned EGR tube, throttle body and plenum elbow. idles smoother than it ever has before, but still misses. Was going to replace the pcv valve and hose assembly, here's my problem. dealer only has the updated pcv hose assembly, which has a different rubber boot (seems larger - maybe like 5/8" vs existing 3/8", too big for the existing barb) where it hooks into the intake manifold. the updated pcv assembly part number is F85Z-6C324-CA. Has anyone run into this? possible the 99' and up intake manifolds have a larger barbed tube for the pcv connection than the 97-98 manifolds?
I don't want to go thru the effort of trying to get the existing one off and not have the new one fit. thinking if necessary could use the new tube, but take off the rubber boot and use a short length of fuel rated hose to go between the new hose and existing barb.
I don't think the pcv is the culprit with the engine missing, more along the lines of just going thru and replacing / updating things. just replacing the pcv valve did not help the miss. I have a UPR catch can sitting around that i am going to try to work into the pcv side as well...
fresh plugs and injectors next on the list.

update
Heads up, the hose assembly that the dealer says is the correct one does not fit as-is, the rubber boot on the intake manifold side is indeed too big. i removed the boot and used 3/8" fuel rated hose to make a union.
This thread might have saved me a ton of work. Curious, was your previous part number F65E-63C324-CA ?
Just got this 1997 4.6L SOHC, I was replacing my PCV valve the other day and noticed the 4-5 inch section leading up to the connector is disintegrated and sadly all I find online is the F85Z-6C324-CA.
Can you share more details around how you made the "union" with the 3/8" fuel rated hose?
Where did you get the hose?
Any update on how that is working?
Thanks for taking the time!

This thread is almost 15-years old, so he might not reply. That aside, any auto parts store sells 3/8 fuel rated hose by the foot. Hopefully you have at least an inch at the ends of your existing PCV tube fittings. If so, cut off the bad part and leave as much of the good part as you can, slip the 3/8 onto it and then use a small hose clamp to keep it in place and sealed. Do the same to the other end and you're done. You can also take a look at the part at the link below to see if it is the one you need.
