I've been getting quite a few requests for info on what the door seal mod is and how to do it. Basically, it is a way to improve the factory door seals against wind noise and rattling. There is a write-up in the tech folder but I'm also adding this video to hopefully provide more information.
Very nice video and easy fix, thanks.
You did it on your new truck ? 2011?
On the video I see completely different door seal than on my 2002 EX.
2011 they still rattle?
Yes, the seals have been modified in the 2011's some but I'm sure it won't take long until they rattle like the previous versions. This is a pre-emptive strike at not dealing with a problem a year from now. I had a 99 Expedition and 2000 Excursion which had a larger, single channel inside the door seal that this really worked well with. The Excursion doors were the worst and the mod made them seal up nice and tight. I also did this mod on a 2002 Sport Trac as well.
On the 2011 I used some new black colored tubing which is pretty trick looking and was about half the price of Home Depot, Lowes or Amazon.com. Here's a link to my most recent order: 50 ft Roll 3/8 Surgical Tubing
