Question

I don't hear any wind noise, but my front passenger door has a fierce squeak that just drives me crazy... you'd think the truck had 2 million miles on it from as much as it squeaks. Occasionally if I hit a bit bump the driver door will kinda make a thump also... it would seem these doors don't close near as tightly as the doors on my 94... they closed solid.

Would this help get rid of my squeak and thump problem you think? I love the truck, but these door noises just ruin it for me

Thanks

Don't know about the squeak - But If your getting a clunk - you might check the TSB's - There is one out for a cab bushing on the 2011's - I don't have it - but there is a known issue ..

As good as this video is, and I do appreciate cowlick taking the time to shoot it, I don't really understand why you guys feel you need it. When the weather is cold I find myself having to slam the door twice, even three times, because the seals are stiff. The last thing I want is to make it even harder to get the doors closed.

Is there a chance your door latch is wearing out? I had the same feeling with my 2000, finally came to a point where the latch broke and had to drive home with a tie down ratcheted between both doors.

There was no way I had to slam the doors on my 99 Expedition or 2000 Excursion when the seals were worn out. The doors were just loose and sloppy and rattled a bunch. Adding the tubing just returned the doors to nice, tight factory state.

Having said that, there was one other guy who complained that his doors were too tight after the mod. He actually pulled the tubing out of the one door he did and then posted his concerns. After other people jumped in and gave their perspectives, he re-installed the tubing and gave it a few weeks for the new seals to "settle in". I never heard back from him if he was happy with the results.

Is it possible that something is out of alignment on your doors? If you're having to slam them now before the door seal mod, it's probably not the seals that are the problem.

Nah, I don't think anything is wrong. In fact, just the opposite. The seals are a nice fit and I don't get any rattle or wind noise. The cold just makes the rubber a tiny bit stiffer.

I took the first long drive with my truck since doing the door seal mod, and I couldn't be happier. The reduction in banging/clunking of the doors over bumps, even with the strikers adjusted perfectly, is pretty amazing.

We have had quite the weather swing here in the last couple of weeks, from 80+ to low 30's, and I have no complaints with regards to door function.

Glad I stumbled upon this. Gonna have to try this on my 250 and my wifes sport trac. The sport trac has always had wind noise (it has actually gotten worse). I tried a different mod by adding the new seal from newer sport tracs. My 250 doenst have to much wind noise, but once in a while it does. Thanks for the info.

Well, I just did this last Friday and Holy Smokes! I can't believe I waited this long to give it a try... not even so much as a squeak, rattle, or shimmy any more. I doubled up the tubing in the passenger side front door as it was the worst and man did it help. Like driving a brand new truck now!!!!!!!

My dad and I just did both of our 08 Supercabs a couple of weeks ago and besides having to slam the door sometimes it works great
I think it was 17-18 feet per door.

I also did the vertical weatherstripping in between the front and back doors.

I was looking at the truck tonight and figured I will do the strip in between the doors also. Tubing is on order. 50ft roll of tube $39.95 + S.H. and a $4.00 100ft roll of BullDog 14 Gauge Galvanized wire to snake it threw, wire purchased at Walmart. 1 can silicone spray lube.

Installed the tubing yesterday, had some problems getting the tube threw with the silicone lube, so I switched to Wesson cooking oil and it worked great, used a small spray bottle. You will need some assistance once you are ready to pull it threw, keep the gasket pulled taught while feeding the tube. Overall about 2 hrs start to finish (wasn't in any hurry!). Doors now sound good and solid when closing, sounds good while driving, but have not had it at highway speeds yet. First stop was the car wash and no leaks with high pressure! So far very pleased with the out come. The only thing rattling now is all the junk in my door panels, I will have to clean them out.
