X plan is about $100 over invoice. You might be able to get a dealer to come down some (especially on last years' model) but don't count on it on new models. And MSRP may be $8-9k over invoice, so yes several thousand is a good savings.

As far as the rebates in the brochures go, you might get a coupon or you might not- at least that's how the F150 brochures are. It's the luck of the draw. I don't know about the F350 brochure.

Well X-plan is closer to $300 over invoice and people are getting that all day long. Take a look at the forums and see what people are getting. No one pays MSRP.

Here... try this...

go to Carsdirect dot com and price out your dream machine. Their price will be about $500 over invoice. Subtract their "fee" and you can see that $300 over is pretty do-able.

Why do you think you can't do the same?

good info....thanks guys.
stopped at my dealership last saturday.
They had a 350 srw on the lot. I was looking it over and the salesperson appeared out of nowhere. handed me the keys and asked if I had driven the 011? I said no. He said take her for a spin. I asked do you want my keys or license he said no.....and off I went. gotta love living in the country.

great ride....it didn't even feel like I was driving a truck.....
really considering a new truck.
went back talked to the salesman......no pressure. he said call if I wanted to build my own.
thanks to the forum I filled him in on all the options on the truck....he has been too busy to keep-up with all the extras

Here's another way to look at it...

The dealer gets $500 cash back from Ford for each X-plan deal. If you add in the fees, he is basically making anywhere from $600 to $800 over invoice.

Participation in X-plan is entirely voluntary... the dealer doesn't have to accept an X-plan PIN.

So ask yourself why a dealer would accept an X-plan PIN if he could sell his inventory for "thousands" more. The answer is... he wouldn't. But he does because he can't.

And those that aren't taking X-plan offers are likely betting on making money off the naive, ill-prepared buyer.
[edit]Or... they are in a very competitive market.[edit]

I live in a "1 horse" town area. The dealers are very spread out and small. Won't deal much at all. Hard to find one anywhere on the lot's that I can see. So x plan is necessary for me to get the job done. I can not buy one unless I get the x plan. No luck yet.

You could prob goto the smaller dealership and say you will give em a 5grand deposit if they sign you a deal on getting one built at xplan price. You would have to wait tho. Basicly for them its gaurenteed money. If you back out they got your 5grand. If you dont they got a sale and will get there ford kickback on the truck.

I get the X-plan thru my work, but even if I didn't $40 would be worth it to just go into the dealership and ask what my price is. It's worth it whether it takes 5 minutes or 5 days to haggle your way down, unless you enjoy the challenge. I have better things to do with my time.

My local dealer is going to order one the way I want it in case I get the xpin.
I told him I am haveing trouble getting a x pin as I can't/won't do the deal unless I can't get it. Have a SS/semi retirement budget to work with. X pin would seal the deal.
Anyway he said "no problem if the pin doesn't I'll have one for inventory". Nice as I"m not pressured to give a deposit but Someone might be driving the truck with color combo etc. that I want. LOL

Id say if you cant manage to get a xpin. Ask him what the best price he could give you on it would be to take it the day it arrives. I know one of my dealerships were willing to push it thru as a fleet purchase. No idea what fleet account it would go on but yea. And that was around $700 over invoice before any rebates. I know dealerships pay interest on trucks that sit on the lot to ford. Not much but it does add up.

Whats MSRP on the truck your looking at? (capt caper) If its a higher end truck in a small town it may sit for a while and they dont usualy like sitting on them for months and months. The truck my local dealership ordered for me which got screwed up in shipping has been sitting since april 20th. And they have had like another 700 in intrest tacked onto what they owe ford. I can see why they dont wanna risk a kingranch on the lot.

I say they should be able to give it to you around 52k before rebates without any problems. If msrp is less than 56k just figure about 4 grand off.

My local dealer didn't budge without xpin last time. He never called me back last time but was happy when I got an x pin. I was lucky a decent guy from diesel stop sent me a pin and that made the payments do able that time. Same situation now I guess.
It's probably the boss boss/owner doing the deals. My salesman was so happy I might get another xpin for this one. He knows my situation and wants to keep me moving on a good set of wheels I believe.

I had a dealership that wouldnt budge on a truck. They had like 5500 in play before rebates on the truck they had on the lot. He wouldnt come off nothing and when he called me and i was at another lot that was gonna do 3grand off on something with 6200 in play he said he would be able to give me like 500 off telling me that the dealership i was at was playin games and stuff. Well i ended up with my kingranch and 3 months after i bought it the salesman called me telling me they would do 6000 off including current rebates. There still stuck with the truck even now.

Capt caper,

Why not go the sure way and join the EAA. It will take more than 30 days for your order. $40 and 10 minutes online to join gets you a "x plan" pin in 30 days.

Regards
