Hey all, I have a little different question regarding a blower motor. First of all My truck is a 1998 F-150 XLT Lariat super cab with the 5.4 engine. My question about the blower motor is can it slow down in rpms over time? I've owned the truck for three and a half years now and the fan has never had much output. All of the speeds work by the switch so I figure the resistor is O.K.
I've had mouse troubles in the past, so last week I tore into the heater box expecting to find a nest somewhere, all was clear. I suppose I'll check the voltage at the motor next, but I was wondering if anyone has had a fan get weak over time?
Thanks, Dan.
Dan, To answer your question..they can. These motors dont have bearings, but bushings. They,re made of copper, and can wear out over time.
My suggestion is to remove it completely, and hook up a 12 volt car batt to it.There should be one terminal on the blower housing, and the frame assy is ground. When you fire it up,youll get a good idea on how weak/powerful it actually is.
You could also have a restriction in the ducting system causing the problem...and it wouldnt necessairily be in plain view.
could be fan bearings as mentioned.. you might also listen to fan in your buddies truck. in general, i never thought the FORD trucks had very big fans. Sppeds seem like super slow, extra slow, slow, and medium slow.... HI dont seem to put out much to me.
Hello all, just to let You know I replaced the blower motor with a new one, and it made a world of difference. The old motor would barely blow out the dash vent past the steering wheel. Now I can feel the air on My face while driving.
