Well the blower motor on my heat A/C is about toast. I've noticed that it's not putting out much air lately and I've noticed when I turn it to high that the amp guage drops considerably and the voltage drop is causing my transmission to shift bad (only does it when the fan is on high.) So my question is, what is a good replacement fan that puts out a high volume of air? Anyone had any luck with a fan motor from anything besides the one that's made for these trucks?

this same exact thing happened to my volvo 940 when I had it, I went to the scrap and pulled one out of an older ford explorer and it fit the car nicely, had no problems after I installed it
i got a replacement blower motor from autozone and it does ok. no better the stock unfortunately. i wish i could get better push as well. if you find something, let me know. if im not mistaken, my dads 02 f250 fan looked the same. and i know that basty puts out way more cfm then mine.
I wonder if there is something different about the blower out of a 96. The one in my 96 will blow so hard it's annoying if left on high plus if will freeze your ***** off if left that way long. I rarely run it any higher than low once the truck has cooled down. I was thinking maybe a blower out of an SUV or maybe a 4 door truck. Seems like they would need lots of air to cool those large cabs.
Don't know the layouts of your truck but is it possible that your blower wheels, housing, cowl areas and all the ductwork needs to be cleaned?
And perhaps your ducting blend doors are hung up/blocked with items?
When we got our clunker home it was stinky and dirty and we had electrical problems with the dreaded ford headlight switch. So I yanked the dash and took the complete hvac system apart.
The ac core was completely covered in a film of hair/plant materials. The cowls had crap stuck in the drains. And there was a nasty dirty film from the blower wheel to all the housings, to the foam on all the blend doors and routing.
I gutted it all, cleaned it up, took out all the pencils, etc. that had fallen in and replaced all mating surface weatherstripping and foam on the blend doors.
There were chunks of crap blocking normal operations of blend doors and my main door was broken off its hinge.
I have the original fan to the truck and it is still spinning with a ticking noise, but the difference before and after was like night and day. Our ac is down but the ac blower setting is more forcefull than the regular vent settings. When heating the low settings are more than enough to bake people out of the truck. The setting on ac seems more powerfull than the cars I have driven in?
I was having this problem and decided to pull my dash apart for other reasons and found most of the ducts have HUGE leaks in them, I'll be sealing them upon reassembly.
I also found the doors warped and not sealing, I think I may remake them out of aluminum and use foam gaskets, if not I'll just use thicker softer foam.
Blend doors break frequently.. I need to do mine over thats for sure! I'll be subscribing to this thread for when I got a chance to replace my blower motor
I expect you guys are right and mine is nearly stopped up with crap too seeing as how my truck has seen way more than it's fair share of dusty dirty muddy conditions. I intend to do a full clean of the system when I replace the blower motor. I know the blower is getting weak tho as it has a hugh amp draw when turned on high. Enough so that it makes the trans shift funny when on high. The search for a better motor continues. I'll let you guys know if I come up with something.
