Great looking '51 wrecker. I have a very similar wrecker bed, but it doesn't have its boom. One of a long list of things to find someday. If I'm seeing right on the phone it's got a '51 Illinois "B" truck front plate. Any idea where this station was located? And notice the Sportsman woodie in the background. Stu
Cool picture. The little coin dispenser on his belt brings back memories. I remember having one of those when I was a paper boy, thought I was so cool, just like the guys at the filling station.....
Really, really cool. I am just knocked out over this last run of photos! There is a cool older guy who has a shop about a half hour from where the ferry docks on the mainland. His name is Bob Brown and he runs a business called 'The Sportsman Shop'. It's just a moss covered metal building with a hand painted sign over the door in a little town called Alger. Inside you will find the holy grail of Ford Sportsman Woodies. That's all he does. Most of his work ends up at Pebble Beach and other such places. He built all his own tooling and presses for the wood. Every stick is a Steinway and he does all the mechanicals from engine building to paint and varnish. It's just he and his son. Did I mention he made a 'shaper' for cutting the correct finger joints from an old washing machine? (set on 'spin'). One tour through there about 20 years ago changed much of how I run my business. Sorry about chance of subject, I couldn't help it....

The phone number is 263-9484. The address on the door is 103rd and State St., so it's likely a bigger city. If you knew the original area codes for Illinois, before the cell phone days and they made up extras, you could narrow the city down to a few choices by googling the number and prefix. 309-263 shows Morton, Ill.
Very cool pic. I love the old round back wreckers.

That is a very very nice Wrecker. I would gladly give Whom ever both yer
left and right ones and anything you have he may want for that in a NY minute.
Thanks for the heads up Gary on the Sportsman Shop. Next bike ride off island I'll have to remember to stop in and see some old world craftsmanship at work.

Not only are the trucks in these pictures interesting but the people. When I see the people I wonder who they are, where they are, what are their stories. They were someone important to someone. They made a living, they built things, kept things going. I'd bet there's someone out there now who wish they had that picture with "Uncle Mike" or "Grandpa" or "Dad". I wish I had some picture of my dad with my F-2.
