i know im a traitor.

got tired of putting money into my ford... it needs a $160 battery cable, as well as a new set of batteries, and it has so many shorts in the electrical its not funny... so i got some money together and i should be picking it up the end of this week.

2K isnt bad. the body is extremely straight. theres no snowload dents no dings of any sort, minor if any scratches.

That's a diesel? Mid late 90's? If so good luck, and we will miss you. But you'll be baaaaaaaack.

oh yeah sorry, 94 6.5L turbo. its still IDI though if that counts for anything. i still have the ford and its going to be my beater/trail rig. this will most likely be my daily driver. hence i was told i should get 18MPG minimum vs 18 at max in my ford lol. my friend and i went almost 200 miles in his 94 1 ton 5 speed 6.5 with 40 HP injectors and used just under a 1/4 tank. so im hoping for atleast 20-22

Same basic truck my dad has only his is the ideal 1993 model year. New enough to have the turbo option but old enough to not have the unreliable ECU integrated injector pump. He typically averages around 16 MPG on a good day but if you have taller gearing and go easy with the 4L80E tranny, it should be able to see 18 MPG. Supposedly his was capable of 21 MPG according to the PO, but we never saw that even with a bed cover.

Be sure to oil up the cab corners if you are in any place that will see sand, dirt, or salt. Crawl under and you will find large plastic body plugs that allow access inside the rear rocker panels right in the extra cab zones, so you have no excuse if it rusts out on you.

His only real gripe with the truck is the poor turning radius. My fords can turn rings inside his GMC. Not a bad truck over all but it did have it's fair share of quirks over the years. The engine isn't as strong as a 6.9, but it can still get the job done. Zero complaints about the auto tranny though, as much as I hate to say it.

but anyway, truck seems in good shape and worth the 2g. FYI my buddy has like a 93 and a 95 with the 6.5 both 5 spds both 3/4 tons ones a single cab others and extended they both get about 15-16 hwy empty. Loaded he says he get 9 or so... my 7.3 N/A 79 will outrun em both too

we've got 3 88-98 Chevy's at work. 92 K2500 Diesel, 95 K2500 gas (454), and a 98 K3500 diesel cab/chassis. The 98 runs great and other that some pump controller, haven't had much trouble.

The 92 is an entirely different story... Start ok cold, runs great, will not start hot after sitting more than 10 minutes...you have to wait several hours for it to cool. This after new pumps, GP controllers...

I wish you luck with yours. I think they're good trucks (for a Chebby...)

Head gaskets usually fail for a reason. In our case it was about 5000lbs of glass in the back of the truck and another 2000lbs of trailer behind AND a steep climb over a pass. Not a particularly high pass but it was enough to cause a leak to start as temperature got up to 3/4 on the scale before I noticed and backed out.

By the time we figured out for sure what was going on a few weeks later, the head and deck had erosion on them from combustion gasses eating away at them. Used some high temperature metal filler and it seems to be holding 6 years later after we did the head gasket job ourselves (not fun). That was the first and only time we ever worked his truck so hard but there was no choice since I didn't have a diesel yet at the time. The stock cooling package is also hoplessly undersized with these trucks and we upgraded the radiator with an extra core when it came time to replace it roughly 3 years ago. No overheating issues since then, but my truck does most of the heavy hauling these days anyway.

Only problem now is it has a knock and I don't know why. Hoping its just an injector.

Have fun in the slow lane if you want a good laugh pull the valve covers and look at the cracks in the heads sure hope its got the hardend valve guids. At least the 6.5s will run for ever of course thats how long it will take to get any where. But to give credit where credits due the 4L80E is a good trans better than a stock E4OD but the E4OD can be built alot stronger. I doubt the guy had 40HP injectors I mean come on do you expect us to belive a set of injectors can double an engines HP? Oh and david you haven't seen a bad turning radious till you seen my truck. I wen't back to work today and when I went to park a mac dumptruck I relised it could turn circles around my truck.

And for you bowtie bubbas that are probly all mad by now its all in fun. Oh and don't forget to bleed the fule system after you replace your valve cover gaskets.

Give me basic hand tools a sligtly fancy alen wrench and posibly a drill and bench grinder depending on year and that 5.9 will be MUCH faster. the 5.9s untill realy the common rail didn't exactly get up and go but they would haul any thing and literaly run for ever the rest of the truck did not last so long . It may be faster than your 6.9 but I think mine could take him.
