Cross Over Steering question?

I have a 73 F-250 Highboy with manual steering, I found a 1979 F-350 2WD with power steering. I was wondering if I can put this in my rig and what modifactios am I looking at. I can already tell that the headers need to be rerouted, because of where the power steering box needs to go. I need to add some kind of steering arm on the passengers side or something, for the drag link to drive from the new steering box to the front wheels.
What else am I looking at? Or will it work at all?

I found this picture of a cross over steering that someone did and I was wondering if any body knew what is on the steering nuckle that the drag link is on. The drag link from the steering box to the right steering nuckle, there are two places on this knuckle see the picture below

I'm asking because I have a steering bok and pump out of a 79 F-350 and I would like to know if it will work? I think I could do something just like this guy did. But I would like some feedback from people who know?
Thanks all.

It depends on how much fabrication are you willing/able to do ? There are more/other options.

So the steering box from the 79 won't work with out a bunch of modification? It looked like there is a place on my frame for it to bolt to but the header is in the way.
What are my other alternatives?

the pics seem to show a 2wd style box or possibly a 2wd frame converted to 4x4 but if you look at the pitman arm it is over top of the stump and if you are not running as much lift at the truck pictured there is no way this would be possible . with a lot of flex i would say this one gets close

the drag link is connected to a high steer arm for a dana 60 that bolts onto the top of the knuckle, if yo uhave a dana 44 front it will have to be machined flat, drilled, and tapped to put the high steer arm onto it.

for trucks with under 4 inches of lift things get tight on doing crossover, that truck has a huge lift on it allowing more room.

i would either run a saginaw off of a chevy and put it up in the front so you dont have to mess with the headers or a 78-79 only f250 4x4 box mounted in the front like they were originally placed

Thanks,
As far as both of those power steering boxes; which one is the best (strongets)? Which one costs the least to do?
Trying to weigh the $ to the most strength. If they are farily close then I will go with the strongest.
Thanks,
Mike

If I were doing a crossover steering setup on my truck I would just run it up front like this, to avoid the axle.

as far as strength i would say the saginaw box which came on many chevy and dodges but like the pics in the links i posted above it mounts to the outside of the frame. which is no big deal because the arm will be sweeping under the frame anyways no matter which box you use. these steering boxes are more aesible avaliable most parts store stock them or the junk yards are full of them.

how much lift are you running?

like in the pic above to do the crossover you would need to turn the pitman arm 90* so it would be facing back then by the time you pat the draglink into the arm it would be into the spring so lift makes it all alot easier

User bucks77ford has a good write up with pictures of him putting a 77.5-79 f2504x4 steering box in his high boy. Shoot him a pm. with any questions. He's a great guy and knows everything about this project.

Wow! Thanks for the infor and picts. I like the way that is set up. I know the chevy equipment is more readly in stock but I really hate to put the chevy stuff on my Ford.
Just kidding I don't care where it comes from as long as it gets the job done.
What year chevy Saginaw box should I be looking for? Or what years?
I am running a stock height mine is a 73 stock Highboy purchased from the original owner who purchased it in Long Beach Ca in 73 and added the rims from Superior and the winch and CB the tires are only 33x12.16.5 I might put 35's but no larger.

That is almost the same set up I have on mine except it is manual steering and it is in the same place with the pitman arm under the frame the same.
