Did power steering conversion and doesn't work!

I did a power steering conversion on my 70 f250 4wd and am having problems. I used the power steering pump and steering box from a 1970 2wd. Put new seals and gaskets in pump and box.
If I turn the wheel very slowly the power steering works but if I try to turn fast like turning into a parking lot, no power steering. It's like the pump can't keep up or something.
What could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

Did you prime the new pump before you started the engine? Then did you work the air out by moving the wheels lock to lock a few times?

X2 with Gary, No Cost, raise the front wheels and turn the wheel coast to coast about 20 times. This can get air out.

Thanks for the replies!
Yes, I turned the wheel back and forth many times before starting. I put new o rings and seals in both before mounting but had never rebuilt one before so I can't guarantee my work.

Whenever I add power steering, replace a PS pump or have to open up a PS system to replace hoses or parts, afterwards, I prime the system with a variable speed drill motor to purge the air out of it --BEFORE I ever put the belt on the pump and fire the engine up.

The idle speed of an engine is way faster on the pump than a drill motor being turned at low RPMs. This is when a pump gets burned up or damaged from air pockets in the system that keeps the pump from being completely submerged in fluid, when it's being spun from the engine. Whining from a hydraulic system is an indication of cavitation (air trapped in the system). This is damaging to the pump.

Variable speed drill motor and a 3/8" hex bit engaged into the drive on the pump shaft to purge the air from the system, prior to putting the belt on and firing up the engine.
