More than likely its something with the glow plugs and/or relay. I replaced mine a few years back, along with synthetic oil I never plugged mine in this winter and it'd start for me no problem every morning. Let me know if there is anything I can help with, diagnosing or wrenching.

truck continues to start okay!!

it has always had the tendency to just 'die' going down the road.
usually it happens about twice per year,
dispite having Ford Co. fix the cam sensor.

now it is happening about every day.
i'll be driving along and it will abruptly 'die'

sometimes, when i go to start it in the morning
the 'wait to start' light will not come on.
i'll shut it off and then usually it does and it will start

whatever the problem is
it's getting worse.
it is a computer thing
or was the cam sensor thing not fixed?

what do i need to do?

thanks
dave

Hey Dave.

Go to the dealer and get you a new CPS (cam position sensor) for about 30.00. Change it out and you should be good to go. Clay has the black ones that are better.

Dave, If you are going to replace the cam sensor I'd get the BLACK one from Clay at RiffRaff, its a much better unit, and the dealer will only have the Gray ones....
BTW: Hows the Hipo Fastback coming? I sure miss the forum over there!!

Trucks been starting great with the new glow plug relay
but..........
after installing a new cam sensor
i'm still having problems with the truck
'just suddenly dying' while driving it.

i thot the problem was fixed as it went about 500miles
without doing this, and then it started up again.

i'll be driving along and it will drop dead die!!
check engine...wait to start....brake idiot lites all come on.

i've gotten used to this and have become pretty good
about shifting into neutral
turning the ignition key off
and restarting on the move
and it usually starts right up
shift back into drive and continue on my way!!!

could the new cam sensor (from ford) have gone bad?
or is this s.t. else?

If its a 'new" one from Ford, yes it could be faulty. The black CPS' are the best. I know Clay @ Riffraff sells the black ones.

Glad to hear your truck is starting like it should. Makes a BIG difference knowing it'll start for you when you need it!

it's as if s.o. suddenly cut the power.

it just did it again on the way to the airport this am!
this time i went thru the routine as described above
BUT.........
after i shut off the ignition and turned it back on
the 'wait to start' lite would bleek on brief
and then abruptly go off an the truck wouldn't start.

it's like s.t. in the computer system is not allowing
ignition to take place.

after awhile, the 'wait to start' lite came on and
stayed on like it's suppose to
and when it did this, it would start okay.

??????????

an update on the problem of truck suddenly 'dying'
mechanic's computer always came up with
the cam sensor and the super chip
that the previous owner had bought and installed for more power.
we decided to replace the sensor and it's harness
and to remove this 'Super Chip'
so far, after about 1000 miles
we're okay no dying!!
course, i don't have that tremendous surge of power
that i used to!!
but if this will correct the problem
i can live with it.

has anyone else had problems with these Super Chips?
