Thanks, Pop. I was thinking about this after I posted. Can you see the taper on each end of the pad in the photos? I don't recall ever seeing that on pads before, and I wonder if that is supposed to be a wear indicator. Like when the taper is gone, it's time to replace? Does that sound right?
I'm sure tires has something to do with it, and for all I know the previous owner could have towed heavy and often with it for the first 23k miles of it's life. It used to have a 5 'er hitch installed.
I guess I'll let the pads go for a while. We are going to WY in about 2 months, so between now and the end of the trip will be 5k miles or so. I think they should be okay.
Good Evening So Cal. Hope is everybody tonight. Went to the wife's High school reunion today. Nice time until the thunderstorms moved in. Kind of cut thing short.
Oh yeah, I was almost done when I posted. But all I did was inspection. My rotors are in great shape, so I won't be changing those, but I'm undecided on the brake pads. So all youse guys give me your opinion on these. Do these need to be changed now? I'm not sure how thick new pads are on Superduties. These have about 1/4" of pad left, and no rivets are showing yet. I don't see any kind of wear indicator on these pads. The wear was very even on all 4 sets.
Most Brake pads now don't have rivets any more they are bonded, the rivet heads you see I believe are only for the anti squeak pad.
Just researched on line the minimum thickness, they are saying, and is DOT minimums is 1/16 inch from rivets or backing plate. I can dig out my factory manuals tomorrow and see what they say.
