Did the same thing to my '96 last year, while you're under there better check the shock mounts on the frame they have a tendency to do the same thing at about the same time.
I need to these next. The shocks are so rusted out they must be original.
Hey guys. Got my new old truck back home. Just got back today from a week in Vermont on vacation so i haven't started work on it. Found out the bed is perfect with no rust! In New England on a 19 year old truck! It was swapped off a diesel truck, and says diesel fuel only on the door. Hilarious. Rear shackle mounts both broke on the way home, they needed to be replaced anyway. It was only a matter of time. The frame also needs more work than expected. So i'm now trying to get a new frame, swap it with my 83 frame, or me and my dad will tear it down and do some welding, rust removal and a good coat of chassis saver. Still no money lost. The stuff on the truck is still worth more than what i paid for it.
Well my brother made it home!!! He said the truck would lose power? The motor was blown and replaced with another. From a dead start its ok up the gears it ****s just sounds like the down shift is not working. I noticed the same thing here after we finished we went for a ride and it did it to me. When i put it in reverse to head back home the truck shifted fine. I told him to take it to his friend and see what he has to say.

I believe the '83 frame is slightly different at the front. I think they changed the "horns" to attach the newer front bumper, and they changed them again in '92 for the same reason and to make them collapsible.
