CEL P2285

Was driving my truck today and notice the CEL on. Checked the code with my X3 and it said P2285: injector control pressure sensor low. First of all, what exactly does this mean? Second, I've read several posts that say this has something to do with the ICP sensor, so if that is the case, what should I do? I also read one post that said they replaced P/N 3C3Z9F838EA, and then another that said they replaced P/N 5C3Z12224A. Does anybody know which I should be replacing if I should replace anything. Thanks for any help.

If you replace the sensor then you need to also replace the wiring connector. How is the truck running?

It seems to run fine, but then again, what should I be noticing? I cleared the code with my X3, so should I wait to see if it comes back before I replace anything? And the sensor and wire connector you're talking about, is that was both of those part numbers are that I listed? If not, do you know the part numbers?

5C3Z12224A. is the connector 3C3Z9F838EA is the sensor

IMHO I would check the wiring and drive the truck to see if it returns. Sometimes you get ICP sensor codes with a tuned truck, but I don't think so in this case. Did you get this code after a hard hammer down run, which would probably give you a P2284 not 5?

I wouldn't say I had just done a "hard hammer down run", but I had just put it on the floor from a dead stop to make it smoke a ton on another car, then let off before the truck started taking off. Could that have done it?

I used to get ICP codes going down the dragstrip, but I'm thinking the 2285 is more of an electrical code than a pressure code. Maybe Cheezit will have some insight.

P2285 ICP short circuit to ground or open defective sensor is what the code book says.

So yesterday the CEL came back on. I noticed today and a little yesterday that when the truck is idling, both in park or at a redlight, sometimes it will have a quick surge and the sound of the idle changes, but neither necessarily sounds like a rough or bad idle. However, usually when it surges the idle seems to get louder and the turbo seems to be a little louder at the tail pipe. Should I just go ahead and change out the sensor? And if so, do I need both part numbers to completely do the job? How hard is it to do? Any special tools needed? I have the write-up from the tech folder but alot of times the more experienced people tend to sandbag the job and make it seem a little easier than it is to the mechanically inclined, yet less experienced folks like myself.

Several seconds after I turn on my truck, it does the same thing at idle. Exhaust note gets really deep for 10 seconds or so and then goes back to normal. It does that off and on like the pcm was cycling the veins on the turbo or something. Sounds cool though. Its that normal? Once I heard an EX do it too while at idle. No surge just a change in the exhaust note.

I don't think what you're hearing is the same thing.

That's exactly what it's doing. No worries.
