Well, unfortunately gas here in NorCal is a bit more expensive. I filled up today, here's the damages:
Total: 25.765 gallons @ 3.299 per gallon= $85.00
Miles traveled: 300.7 miles / 11.67 mpg
Cost per mile= 28 cents per mile
With my PS flatbed I am getting that kind of mileage while hauling 5000 lb of cargo. Last time I paid over $3 for diesel in CA was 10 days ago in Sacramento area and that was 3.03. There are lot of stations on I-5 with 2.99 diesel. Vegas is hot, not only because of 104 F, but rooms at Hooters casino for $25 and Prime Rib buffets for $9.90. Just don't go there on weekends.
In the mean time my PS run 11,000 miles on synthetic oil. Few more days and I will send a sample to Blackstone Laboratory.
I'm well aware of the sheer awesomeness of both you as a driver and your 7.3 flatbed as a hauler from the PSD vs V10 thread. Please feel free to take your confrontational posts back over there.

Not picking sides or anything, but this thread really needs to be about the facts only, not a discussion. We all could argue over which is better and why, as both diesels and gassers have their benefits, but that would just just turn this thread into a lengthy debate thread all over again- making the facts and results next to impossible to sift through. This project was brought on as a way to compare the average cost of operation of several different powerplants, and although there are a lot of variables and not a lot of test subjects (such as 4X4 vs. 2WD, CC LB vs. SC SB, differences in driving habits and locations, etc.) which will make this more of a suggestive piece than a scientific data, still it needs to be as factual as possible and any discussions that deviate from the topic in any way can result in loss of reader interest as well as make it that much harder for the staff to determine a result.
I never had an illusion that fair comparison done in this way will never give clear answer.
What local price of fuel has to do with anything? If the guy goes to full service station and pays $5 a gallon, than hammers it on the freeway averaging 6 mpg what good such an info will do to me?
IMHO making a chart that would show the truck weight, body style and than average fuel consumption WITH average speed driven would be the only way to make it useful. I would even ignore maintenance costs, since lot of owners like to do oil changes at 1/4 of useful oil life and they are still marginal comparing to fuel cost.
Probably because I got them at the dealer, they where the only dealer that had them in the area that I'm at and none of the parts stores had them and I only wanted Motorcraft. When I picked them up if I had the black boots on the COPs it would have been cheaper it's the same plugs I put on my '05' 5.4 and that was $30.00 for 8(Motorcraft). The brown boots take the new plugs.
I have switched jobs and no longer driving 45 miles one way to work and doing all of the out of town work. 7.3 has not even been started in about 2 weeks.
Also fueled up the other day... I will post up tomorrow. I would get the notebook with the info in it and post up tonight, but it is dark and there might be spiders outside.
Nah, I am just lazy and King of the Hill is on TV, I tell you whut.
I would give an update on my expenses but I still have half of tank of fuel in my truck from May when I last filled up. For the first time in about three weeks I took the old girl out for a spin hauling some recyclables. It might get a bit more of a workout this weekend hauling some garbage and scrap iron. Wish I had an excuse to hook up and pull something but right now there isn't any need.
Its been 2 weeks sinse the last one, so here is all I have spent on it and miles driven.
Nothing but fuel this time. Should put enough miles on to get an oil change in the next 2 weeks.
378.5 miles.
40.208 gallons for a cost of $104.20
Fuel cost ranged from $2.569 to $2.599 a gallon.
MPGs from 7.46 to 9.999
Cost per mile was
$0.275
avg. fuel mileage was 9.41 MPG
The trailer was never unhitched in these 2 weeks and I ran from 9,000 GCW all the way up to 25,000 GCW.
