I just noticed something: while I'll be the first to admit that my V10 will never get the mileage of a diesel, and therefore will always cost more per mile to drive, in all fairness, the gap isn't as big as it shows. What I mean is, I'm paying 50 cents more per gallon than just about everyone here. Even if my truck were a diesel, diesel costs $3.29 a gallon here, so my expenses would still be higher than my diesel brethren elsewhere in the country. Not making excuse, just illustrating a point.
Holy crap, that's good mpg. I clearly need to do a bunch of work on my truck or really lay off the skinny pedal. I only got 16.972 mpg on a recent round trip to Portland driving about 70 mph with about 30 miles running around town in between.
By the way, diesel at my local station here in Seattle has been at $3.43/gallon for the last two months. Premium unleded - $3.37, regular unleaded - $2.97. I wish I could get diesel for some of the prices I've seen in this thread.

thats was feathering the gas and not driving like i was 16. upkeep makes a big difference in mpgs. ive got my 20 ft gooseneck on there now with a 1988 2500 suburban running 38 boogers and 1 ton full floating axles. heading down to the scales at lunch to get it weighed. im guessing 15,500 lbs. well see how my mileage is after towing this trip.

I was kind of wondering if everyone in this test was going to start driving like they were hypermiling. I keep trying to go easy on my truck, but I've only had it for a little over a month and I'm still playing around a lot.
I'm sure as this test gets older, we will see a lot of variation in the mpg reports. Thanks to those of you participating - it's an interesting thread and looks like it involves a bit of effort on all your part to keep it updated.

I won't, when I drove my V10 as DD 100 miles a day (round trip) I noticed maybe 1MPG difference. When I average out my mileage over a year and half or so it was a pretty much 12.5. Now if I am on a long distance trip of highway I can get 14 MPG by staying off the fun pedal.
Hey guys, coming over from the Excursion side, with a V10. Interesting information, wanted to say thanks for everyone putting the time in to keep logs and such.
Well, unfortunately gas here in NorCal is a bit more expensive. I filled up today, here's the damages:
Total: 25.765 gallons @ 3.299 per gallon= $85.00
Miles traveled: 300.7 miles / 11.67 mpg
Cost per mile= 28 cents per mile
