Ah, that's right. I see the networks are trying to shove that down our throats. Just can't get into soccer. Played it as a kid (not by choice), and didn't like it then either.

G'mornin', Pat.

I was going to mention that, but not all of us have one. I LOVE tools, and if I need something I just buy it, but that's not something I use a lot, so I have the ol' manual post-hole-digger. In fact, I have two, but one is an antique, has cracks in the clam-shells, and the handles look like the well-aged, weathered ash that they are. It just sits in the shed. The other one will get used next month when I put up a short fence for a friend in front of some pool equipment.

I rented one of those power augers recently. First time that I had used one. Works like a charm. It was a two man machine with a mind of it's own. It took it's own path so half the holes ended up slightly misplaced. I had to get my hammer drill and an assortment of tools to move some rock to get the holes where I wanted them.

If you do buy one, you are all set for ice fishing season.

Regarding the holes walking, couldn't you start the hole with your hand digger?

Sure, but it digs pretty fast and when it hits a rock it can veer off several inches in a flash.

That's true. Rocks are going to be a problem no matter how you dig.

Another nice thing about the auger is that the average guy can get a nicer hole that will require less concrete. Guys who are good with the clam shells can probably do a nice job too, but I never did.

Hand-digging also allows for hole-size variations.

I go the rental path also. No rock problems here like you have Bruce. That does sound like a pain.

Somehow I was envisioning a video security screen. But now I am thinking this screen requires fence posts.
