Climate Control malfunction

All-

I have a 2006 Ford F-250 6.0 Diesel. On my trip this weekend the climate control pretty much died. I usually use the "auto" setting on the system, set the temp and forget about it. This weekend when I pushed the auto setting the system would shut off. I tried the other settings as well, but the only thing that would work was manually setting the fan on high, no other speed would work. The auto indicator would come on, but the fan would not engage unless I manually set it to high, almost like a default in case of a malfunction. Have any of you had a similar problem? Would love to fix it before having to go to the stealership. I had a similar problem on an F-150 supercrew where one of the fan speeds stopped working, I was able to fix a switch for $8 and I was good to go, hoping to do the same here. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Does your 2006 Ford F-250 6.0 Diesel also have ESOF (Electronic Shift On the Fly) ? If so I'll bet the 4 wheel drive system isn't working either.

The fan on high (and blowing through the defrost ports) is the fail-safe setting for the system. It defaults to this when there is insufficient vacuum to run the system.

Not exactly...

I'm not having that problem exactly, mine's different. The system is still blowing through the dash vents and my ESOF 4wd is still working, so don't think it's a vacuum problem. Although, I have had instances in the past where I would have the system on and the windows open and it would go haywire go tothe default, even if I shut it off. Still searching...

How do you know your ESOF system is working properly?

Sounds to me like it is the EATC system, which will use a Diodo type resister to control the fan speed. That is most likely the cause and needs to be replaced. Default setting is fan on high.

Where it is at, should be on the fire wall, mounted on the evap box.

One of your blend door motors could also be bad. Have experienced similar issue 3x with same results.

I experienced a problem similar once on my truck! The fan would only work in high. I had to get the resistor to the fan motor. Once I replaced that mine worked fine again!

The resistor to the fan motor you all are talking about, is that the Climate Control Module I have heard about? I ordered one of those this AM as it seemed to be a problem with several different guys. If it's a different piece, can you send me the part number and I'll try that one too. Thanks, prefer to sort it out myself, anything is better than sending it to the dealer for $95/hr in labor to fix it.

Red-
I engaged the 4wd from the switch and it locked in no problem, could feel the noticeable clunk of the axle and the change in steering input/feel.

That sounds like the part I was talking about! Its real easy to replace. Just make sure they give you the resistor for the electronic controls and not the manual controls. My local dealership gave me the wrong one on my first visit!
