transfer case linkage

Ok so I have a 1996 f-250 super duty with the 7.3 and a 5 spd tranny. while installing my south bend clutch this past weekend I managed to break the cast aluminuim transfer case linkage, the part that connects the in-cab shifter to the transfer case. does anyone have any ideas on a better fix then cast aluminum?? i priced one out and its dealer only for about $350.

any ideas on making a better stronger piece?? or am a just going to have to replace it with a new one from the dealer??

Have you tried to find one at the scrap yards, you might save a bunch

Are you talking about the piece from the linkage to the TC? Mines a different year and different TC, but it's a piece of steel about 1/8' X 1/2" X 12' or so...

If you're talking about the bottom of the shifter, then a junkyard find would be better.

That's roughly what I was quoted for mine. The PO had removed it and lost it before I bought the truck...I later found it under the seat!

I would call around to different scrap yards to find one, those guys are real sharp at knowing such things. Take your old one off, bring it with you. What you have is the same as mine, and like I said its a 92.

I'm kinda sure that he has this one, but maybe not. It's a spring loaded cylinder design, used on my 92...so they could be easy to find:

Yup, slip ford man. That's it, it broke off right where the in-cab shifter hooks up and also at the bottom under that rubber boot.
