Correct transmisison fluid?

My book for my 2000 says to use Mercon, for my original automatic transmission. Not sure which tranny I have - can I use Mercon V, or if not, which one?
Thanks in advance!

Mercon or Mercon V will work... You have a 4r100 trans..
Note: your power steering also uses Mercon, but alot of us have switched to Mobil 1 syn.

I would suggest Merc V. Ford stopped licensing Merc, so who knows what it really is. I'm running syn Merc V (Mobil1 ATF) and my trans is still quite happy. Even swallowing ~500 HP from the crank. LOL

Questions. If you're changing from Merc to MercV, do you use Marks procedure as written? Do you need to push any extra fluid through, or is any mixing a non issue?

Use it as written. You don't need to do anything extra when changing from MERCON to MERCON V.

If you do just the trans pan.. you are leaving about half the dirty oil that is in the torque converter.
