6637 filter mod questions

I'm going to install the 6637 DIY "Tymar" intake modification on my 2002 Excursion, but I have a couple of questions before I undertake the mod.

First, does this mod mean that I have to take out the whole plastic setup around the battery? I'm a bit confused as to what happens to the airbox setup.

Second, is there any way I need to secure the big new filter in there?

Thanks for any advise!

Joe

Yes and no in that order. The whole airbox disappears and is replaced with a massive filter. As for securing the filter besides the hose clamp on the intake tube nothing needs to be done.

You can also order an early battery tray for an even cleaner install

So, do I cut the airbox off of the battery tray, or can they be separated more easily? It seems to me that the box/tray are all one big old piece.

Sorry I forgot the early 99s had a different battery tray. I'm gonna have to let someone else chime in on what to do.

Joe - On my 02 sd I cut out part of the battery tray with a dremel tool. It was all one piece, no way to divorce the 2 other than cutting. If u cut it make sure u file any sharp edges, when I did mine at first I didnt do that & it chewed a hole thru my filter cover.

Allright,

I guess I'll be trimming things up when I get the equipment.

Thanks for all the help!

Doesn't the tymar come with a clamp to secure the air filter. Post some pics of the finish product.

Thanks for that link. There's some good ideas there.

I had thought the Tymar came with a clamp, but it is also almost as expensive as the Ford AIS....
