Unfortunately, I don't have that info but there are those in the IDI community that do. We should probably set up a thread here and on OBN to compile all of it. I think my 088 originally came with an H trim but I would have to double check that.
how do you get the wastegate for the hypermax? part numbers????
It would involve some custom modding to plumb in an external wastegate between the collector pipe and the . I was thinking something like this could be used as its common to do this on modded imports:
So what "model" ATS are the stock '94 IDI turbos using? 088 style with the big cast housing?
The factory IDI uses a modified version of the 093 wastegated setup. Ford reduced the size of the turbo outlet and downpipe from 3" to 2.5" (and ATS then proceeded to start seeing an upgrade kit to restore it to the 3" setup).
Ford cut the size down for clearance reasons and the engine already had enough power to match any other diesel offered back then (although advertised numbers should always be taken with a grain of salt).
So after my nearly 2 hour drive down (road construction on the freeway) I got to check out the turbo. It was a ford factory system, and someone put on the 3" outlet/downpipe mod! The down side is they didn't have an air cleaner box for it, and they wouldn't let me take the left valve cover (said I'd have to buy the whole engine) so I'll just make an OEM style bracket for the CDR. The other thing I'll have to work with is they chopped off the down pipe about 10" from the turbo - enough to patch up with some mandrel bends if needed, or just go to 3.5" from where they torched it. Turbo has 0 end play and a minute amount of shaft play. She'll be good for a while yet.
Aside from air cleaner, valve cover and down pipe it's a complete system. Definitely workable. I think I'll run with the existing compressor housing for now, but i might upgrade to the new ATS compressor housing. 4" air inlet instead of 3" and it's ported to eliminate surge. It's supposed to push the choke line further out too I guess.
The valve cover isn't a big deal and there are other ways of getting around that. I knocked a hole in mine and then spot welded a baffle inside to prevent liquid oil from getting splashed up into the vent port. Others make a custom access cover for the front injector pump drive gear cover that allows you to run a hose from the CDR to that opening. Some (all?) banks turbo kits use this method.
The downpipe isn't an issue either because the top of it is the hardest to get right when making a new one. Had to make one from scratch for my 088 setup.
LOL I'm usually not so lucky. Well if it makes ya feel any better - due to the fact that it took 3 hours and 45 minutes of driving due to construction and traffic and another 1.5 hours to get them to pull the engine down from the rack and get the turbo pulled I got to work later than I had hoped.. I'll be here past 7pm for sure tonight.
